Hack Spirit Editorial Guidelines

Last Updated, 5th March 2026

Hack Spirit is an online publication covering mindfulness, relationships, personal growth, psychology, and Eastern philosophy. These editorial guidelines explain how content is created, reviewed, and maintained on the site.

1. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions at Hack Spirit are made independently. Advertising, affiliate partnerships, and sponsorships do not determine what we publish or how topics are covered.

Sponsored content, where it exists, is clearly labeled and separated from editorial content. Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial opinions or recommendations. We do not sell dofollow links or accept undisclosed paid placements.

For full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure page.

2. Ethical Standards

  • Integrity: Originality is non‑negotiable. Every piece is written from scratch and vetted for authenticity—our editor, Lachlan Brown, personally runs plagiarism checks and verifies that all ideas are properly attributed.
  • Transparency: We cite our sources, disclose affiliate links, and flag sponsored pieces in plain sight. Readers always know where information comes from and why it’s on the page.
  • Respect: Hack Spirit is a space for many voices. We champion empathy, inclusivity, and thoughtful dialogue, ensuring all perspectives are treated with dignity and understanding.

3. Content Types & Maintenance

Our coverage includes:

  • Articles: Deep‑dive features on mindfulness, personal growth, relationships, and Eastern philosophy—actionable, research‑backed, and written in plain English.
  • Books: Comprehensive guides and insights authored by Lachlan Brown and other experts, available for purchase.
  • Resources: Interactive tools and free resources designed to enhance our readers’ personal growth journeys.

Hack Spirit has been publishing since 2016. Some older articles may reference tools, research, or practices that have since been updated or superseded.

Where appropriate, legacy content is reviewed and may be updated, revised, or removed to maintain accuracy and relevance.

4. Sources and Accuracy

We aim to publish accurate, well-sourced information. Writers are expected to draw on credible references, including peer-reviewed research, established psychological frameworks, and primary sources where available.

Claims related to mental health, psychology, or wellbeing should be supported by reputable references. Where we share personal experience or opinion, it is clearly framed as such.

5. Review Process

All content is reviewed before publication. Lachlan Brown, founder and editor-in-chief, oversees the editorial direction of the site and is responsible for maintaining quality and consistency across all published work.

The review process checks for factual accuracy, clarity, sourcing, and tone. When an article covers specialised territory — such as clinical psychology or mental health — we may consult qualified practitioners to validate key claims.

6. AI and Editorial Tools

We may use editorial tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to support research, drafting, or editing. All published content is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication. AI-generated content is not published without substantive human editorial oversight.

7. Contributor Guidelines

We welcome pitches from writers with demonstrated knowledge in mindfulness, psychology, or personal development — whether through formal education, professional practice, or a strong publication history.

Submissions must be original and unpublished. All accepted work goes through our standard editorial review process. We do not publish AI-generated submissions that have not been substantially developed and edited by the submitting author.

8. Our Responsibility to Readers

Hack Spirit exists to make personal growth practical and accessible. We prioritise clarity over volume, usefulness over hype, and transparency in sourcing and sponsorship.
