What is a zodiac sign?
Before we dive in, it’s important to understand exactly what it means when talking about your zodiac sign.
They only make up one piece of the puzzle when it comes to astrology.
The zodiac is made up of 12 constellations and signs, which divide the sky into 12 sections. This is why your zodiac is determined by where the sun is in the sky on the day you were born.
These pieces of the cosmos are ruled by the constellation they are affiliated with, but it goes much further than this. The term zodiac, actually stands for ‘animals’. You will find most of the zodiac signs are represented by animals. Most, but not all. Libra, instead, is represented by balance.
Each of these 12 sections are further defined by the elements they are affiliated with, and the planets they are ruled by.
Elements of the zodiac signs
There are four elements that rule the zodiac: fire, earth, air, or water. Each of these is characterized by different strengths and tendencies. This also means that each star sign is affected differently by these elements as well.
- Water: is known as shy, reserved, and sensitive, but also intuitive very in touch with their feelings. They are very empathetic to those around them, and also very nurturing at the same time. The water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.
- Fire: is known for passion, creativity, competitiveness, and inspiration.
- Earth: is conservative, realistic, and down-to-earth. They tend to be very patient people, who understand the importance of working towards their goals over time. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
- Air: is rational, social, and intellectual. People with this sign are naturally friendly, communicative, and analytical. Their curiosity makes them excellent students, and most continue to self-educate long after they’ve completed formal schooling. The air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Planets of zodiac
When it comes to the zodiac, each sign also has a ruling planet. Again, each star sign is affected differently dependent on the planet that rules it.
It’s the planet that influences how the sign is expressed, and also gives us those keen insights into the personality traits that are connected to that particular star sign.

There are some who are kind in every situation and strive to be so in everything they say and do. There are others who are kind in certain situations.
On the flip side, you will also find signs that are often rude all the time, while there are others that tend to be rude in certain situations.
Here’s each of the zodiac signs ranked from kindest to…not so kind.
1) Libra

Let’s start with the nicest sign of them all, Libra. They put the effort in to be nice to everyone, all the time. You will find their kindness isn’t dependent on anything, or any situation. It’s simply who they are.
Libras are born peacemakers, and are always the first to spot any discord in relationships, with friends, family, or even strangers, and will act immediately to bring that balance and harmony back and make things right again. This doesn’t always come naturally for Libras, and can be something they have to work towards over time.
But they will never hesitate to put the effort in and go to whatever lengths needed to find the light at the end.
A Libra is also the first person to push their feelings to the side to make others feel better. They are very selfless people, who strive to bring happiness everywhere they go. Of course, you will never find them openly admitting to pushing away their own feelings – everything they do is selfless and without need for reward in return.

2) Pisces

Heading down the list of the kindest zodiac signs, you will find Pisces. They love being kind to others simply because they feel like they are doing something good for themselves, as well as the other person. Pisceans like to make people feel special and truly promote kindness in the world through their words and actions.
Their end goal is never to be liked more. They come from a genuine place of caring, and just want to help in any situation. As a result, you will find they have extremely generous personalities and are ready to give back in life as much as possible, and share any good fortunes with those around them – friends or strangers.
Pisceans make some of the best friends to have in life. They care about your wellbeing and will always be sure to check in on you and make sure everything is OK. If you’re feeling down, they are right there by your side, doing what they can to make you feel better.

The Taurus personality goes beyond simply doing nice things for other people. While they’re more than happy to hold the door of the lift to wait for people, open car doors and let you go ahead of them when waiting in queues, their kindness extends before thing.
If you’re looking for a loyal friend, then a Taurus should be you go to. They are loyal and committed and would never turn their eye on someone in need.
You can also trust them with your deepest, darkest secret. They aren’t going to slip up or share with anyone – it will stay between the two of you. They’re also a naturally sensitive person and are all too willing to expression their emotions, rather than leave them bottled up.
They are also very patient people. That means it’s hard to get on their bad side, as they are very unlikely to ever lose their queue. They like to have things their way and generally believe they are right, which means they aren’t willing to back down. While they don’t seek out confrontation, they also won’t back down from one.

If you catch and Aquarius in one of their rare bad moods, then you’ll be forgiven for thinking they aren’t the nicest people to be around. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. They’re actually really nice people, and if you don’t see it at first, then it’s worth sticking around for a little while.
While they don’t possess the same kindness strengths are the zodiac signs above, they love meeting people and making new friends. It’s when they most feel like their authentic self – and they love learning exactly what makes you…you. They will never hide who they are from you, so you can always be sure that what you see is what you get.
Aquariuses also make great listeners, which means they are a good friend to have in your back pocket for a rainy day. They will never be anything but authentic with you, which means they will also never judge you for what you have being through. It’s simply an ear to lean on just when you need it. Sagittariuses put a lot of their time and effort into being nice to other people. The last thing they want is to be surrounded by anything (or anyone) who they feel are negative, or simply not positive to be around.
They like to do their own thing in life and don’t tend to get caught up in drama of any kind. If you want to be around them, then you have to make sure you bring the positive vibes with you.
Otherwise, you’ll find they simply don’t have the time of day for you. You have to leave the bad-mouthing, whinging and complaining at the door to get along.
It’s their carefree nature that makes them so pleasant to be around. They truly embody the saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”.
They simply don’t see a reason to be anything but nice. As you might expect, they are very optimistic people, and are always able to shine light on a dark situation.
The perfect friends to be around when you need a little boost in life.
Sagittariuses also want their friends to be happy – as I mentioned, they don’t want to be around people who bring down their mood. This means they are always there for you, and the best person to call at 3am when you need an ear.
It’s quite refreshing to hang out with a Sagittarius…you can’t seem to help a little of this vibe rubbing off on you in the process.
6) Gemini

When it comes to Gemini, you’ll find they can be nice or rude, depending on what mood you happen to catch them in.
They often have a very gentle heart, and are known for being quick witted and being able to win people over within just minutes of meeting them. You will feel comfortable in their presence almost immediately. You won’t be able to help it! Part of this is brought on through their kindness that simply radiates through.

7) Cancer

Much like our Gemini friends above, Cancerians are also super nice, when they want to be. It’s very mood dependent and you can never be too sure what side of them you’re going to get. As a general rule, they are known for their kind and caring nature and tend to be incredibly nurturing people.
Cancerians are very in touch with their emotions, which fuels their soft-hearted personality – as long as you don’t find yourself on their bad side.
When they get hurt, angry or irritated, they won’t be afraid to let you know and will quite happily (or rather, not so) speak up. It all comes down to their emotions, mentioned earlier, which they have a lot of.
This can lead to them being overly sensitive about certain issues, which will turn them against you and have them dwelling on it for the rest of the day.
On top of this, they are also known for brooding, which will make them extremely moody with you – and it can be hard to win them back.
Their complex emotions can have them jumping from happy to sad in seconds – before you’re even aware you said or did anything. Don’t take it personally.
At the same time, if you do cross them, you can guarantee you’ll see their vindictive nature. When it comes to getting their way, they’ll always start off with kindness and compassion, but are all too willing to resort to manipulative measures if it works in their favour.
Stay on the good side of a Cancerian, and you’ll experience nothing but kindness, compassion and understanding. Just walk on eggshells, as they can get offended all too easily.
8) Leo

A Leo tends to be as nice as they possible can and do make an effort to please those around them. They very readily show love and affection to others and will treat them the way they wish to be treated, showing immense care and compassion.
The truth is, Leos like to be under the limelight. They love having a good time with others, and they know that this isn’t possible unless they play nice. It doesn’t always come naturally to them, and there is a selfish motive behind it, but they are very harmless – so lap it up!
Of course, you also need to be careful. If you try to take advantage of a Leo, or to pick a fight with one, you’re guaranteed to lose each and every time. They aren’t going to sit back and let you get a rise out of them.
This will take away from the limelight they are seeking and they aren’t going to take it well. While they can be very forgiving people, if you attack them or try and make them look bad, they will let that mean side of theirs lose.
9) Virgo

Virgos are known for their uptight personality, which means they struggle to let go and open up with those around then. It’s no surprise that they can come across as rude as result of this. They pay such close attention to the smaller details, it can detract from the mood around them and cause them to become introverted, and even rude.
They aren’t necessarily trying to be mean, but their inability to let the little things go and just relax can cause the ‘mean’ side of their personality to shine. In order to actually be nice, you need to be able to ignore all the smaller details and to simply settle back and enjoy being in the moment.
This is very hard for Virgos to do, which is why they often come off as quite rude in a social setting.
Virgos also hate confrontation of any kind. You won’t find them jumping into an argument with you just for the sake of it. But that doesn’t mean they are hurting from things you have said or done. Instead of confrontations, they resort to passive-aggressive ways – you may not even notice it unless you’re on the lookout.
If you pay close attention, you will notice the little remarks being flung at you, hoping you’ll eventually get the hint of how they feel.
Of course, this doesn’t mean they can’t be nice. They are also very humble and affectionate people and always try to see the best in others. Virgos appreciate the smallest bit of kindness (as they pay so much attention to those smaller details) and are always ready to help those who need it.
10) Aries

Aries aren’t necessarily mean people, but if you spend enough time in the presence of one, you will be quick to discover they have a very fiery personality. They aren’t the time to sit twiddling their fingers. They will let lose and won’t hold back on you, after all, if you bottle things up it will only fester beneath the surface and make them extra grumpy all the time.
If there’s one thing you can be sure about, an Aries is never afraid to start the fight. Their goal is simply to clear the air, just so they can get through the rest of their day, without this grey cloud hanging over their head.
They tend to act without thinking beforehand. The old adage, “Think before you speak, look before you leap,” is a helpful reminder to them, as they often get caught up in the moment and act impulsively. This is why it’s so easy to find yourself in a fight with them.
Aries tend to be very away of this personality trait of theirs, but rather than considering themselves mean, they simply see it as assertiveness. They feel there’s no reason to skirt around an issue, just to save someone else’s feelings. Instead, it’s better to get it all out in the open and deal with the consequences later.
If you’re looking for an upfront friend who is going to tell you as it is, then an Aries is your go to. They won’t have a problem giving their opinion. At the same time, they are also full of energy and very spontaneous, so can be a lot of fun to be around!
11) Capricorn

When it comes to meeting a Capricorn, chances are they’ll show their mean streak. They tend to be mean more often than they’re not. The way they go about it can be very confusing. Rather than voicing their opinion loudly, they flip from hot to cold, which is even worse.
If a Capricorn is suddenly very aloof, it’s most likely they’re giving you the cold shoulder for something you’ve done along the way. They won’t be subtle about it. They will block you out of conversations, block you on Facebook and won’t reply to any messages.
They can just as quickly flip and turn fiery against you. All the coldness melts away and is replaced with rage and revenge. They will change tactics and try their hand at getting you back, just for the purpose of making you feel awful. It’s said that Capricorns tend to age backwards, which explains a lot of this childish behaviour.

This is why they don’t sugar-coat anything. If they have a problem, you will know about it.
12) Scorpio

And now we have reached the bottom of the list. The zodiac sign that is known for being the least kind of them all. They aren’t afraid to speak up and let you know when they aren’t happy with something you have said or done, and are the first to turn a cold shoulder and ignore you. You want to be wary around this one.
If you’re wanting to get back on the good side of a Scorpio, you need to practically get on your hands and knees and beg with all your might. Often, it will take them to calm down to eventually come around, but begging can help this process.
There’s a storm that comes with their anger, so try and sidestep it if you can. They have an attitude that they aren’t afraid to show in full force.
They show a lot of passion, which is where this mean streak of theirs come from. They think they know best and don’t like to compromise – you can’t easily convince them to see your point of view.
On a good note, Scorpios are also extremely loyal. If they are committed to you, they will stick to it. While their trust can be hard to earn, once you do, you become part of their inner circle.
