Many people try to make big changes in their lives and then wonder why none of them stuck six months down the road. It can be hard to make lasting change in your life, especially when you consider that changing even one thing about yourself means you need to maintain that change for the rest of your life.
But when you look at the things you can do right now and then make a plan for success, you are more likely to maintain those changes over time. If you want to change your life, here are 8 things you can do today to make that a reality.
1) What’s the Starting Point and Where Do You Want to Go?
Take some time to consider what it is you want to change about yourself, if you want to change. Where are you in life compared to where you thought you would be?
What would be better if you could change it? What would be worse if you changed it? Think about where you want to be in several years and work backward from there. What needs to happen to make those things a reality in your life? So while you won’t change your life today, you can start changing your attitude toward how to achieve the things you want right now.
2) What Do You Dream About?
What do you spend your day’s longing for and wishing for? What is stopping you from getting those things? Sometimes all you have to do is walk around the building to see the door, but many people don’t take the trip.
What is it you want out of your life? Think about how you can get it. Write it down and give it life and permission to come to you.
3) Write Down Some Goals
Do you want to start a business? Quit your job? Get a better job? Get married? Get divorced? Build a house? Move to a new city? Write down the things you want for yourself and set some timelines for them.
This will help you see that with a little time and planning, you can have what you want for yourself.
4) Write Down What Needs to Get Done in Short Order
Let’s say one of your goals is to start a business, what needs to happen between now and when you launch your business? What can you do today? You can probably go to the bank and set up a bank account. You can probably register a domain name online.
You can probably register a business name at your local registry. You can order business. What are the things that you can do now to move your dreams and goals forward?
5) Make a Routine List For Yourself
If you want to find success of any kind in your life, you are going to need to maintain some kind of routine and come to expect a certain level of production from yourself.

Many people start with small things like eating a healthy breakfast every morning, drinking coffee, taking a walk, making their bed, and reading some inspirational quotes online. You need some kind of routine to get you out of bed in the morning and get you started on your way to feeling productive.
6) Make a To-Not-Do List for Yourself
While making your to-do list for each day, also write down things you don’t want to do or shouldn’t do. These might include things like not checking your phone for emails and messages before you’ve had your morning coffee.
Other things like not checking Facebook every 20 minutes while you work can help you feel more productive. Whatever you think is going to get in your way of production, put that on your list and stop doing it immediately.
7) Make Your Dreams Known
Some people proclaim their dreams to God, the universe, Mother Nature, their mom’s or someone else. Whoever is most likely to cheer you on or whoever you are most likely to draw inspiration from, tell them what you want. When you open yourself up to receive things, they will come to you.
They won’t just knock on your door, but they will present opportunities for you to find your way to them and you can seize those opportunities.
8) Get Moving
If you want to change your life, it’s not going to happen unless you take action. So get up off the couch, and do one thing that can have a positive impact on your life right now.
Will you take a walk? Register a business? Call a client for more work? Do one thing right now, and you’ll be well on your way to changing your life for the better in no time.
