Not sure if you should stay at your job or switch careers?
Don’t worry, I’m here to help!
Since we spend such a huge part of our lives working, it only makes sense that we should be doing something we’re good at and that we enjoy, right?
With that in mind, let’s take a look at 8 signs that you have the perfect job for your personality type. If you don’t, keep reading to find out what jobs go with which personality type.
Let’s get going:
8 signs you have the perfect job for your personality type
1) Aligns with your values
Different personality types have different values.
The first thing you want to look at is whether the job you’re doing is part of a field or industry that aligns with your personal values and beliefs.
For example, if you’re a vegan and love animals, it wouldn’t make sense for you to be selling fur coats or to be a chef at a BBQ joint, would it?
However, it would totally make sense for you to be a vet! Healing animals would be the perfect job for you!
And if you’re a pacifist, then you shouldn’t be a soldier. A peacekeeper would be up your alley.
2) It makes use of your strengths
If you look at the different personality types out there, you’ll notice that each has its strengths and weaknesses.
What makes the job you’re doing perfect for you is that it uses your strengths.
For example, if you’re an extrovert and love to socialize, then your perfect job would be to work with people! (You’ll find specific examples in the section at the bottom).
And do you know what?
Being able to make use of your strengths and skills will make you feel competent and confident in the tasks and responsibilities assigned to you.
After all, you don’t want to just be going through the motions, you want to take pride in what you do.
3) The tasks are engaging
This is actually a very simple and straightforward sign.
If you find the work you’re doing interesting and engaging, then it’s the perfect job for your personality type.
If on the other hand, you’re bored and can’t wait to be done, then you probably haven’t found your dream job yet.
And get this:
There is no “interesting” or “boring” job. What one personality type might find excruciatingly boring, another might find quite stimulating.
To each his own!
The bottom line is that if you feel a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment while performing your job-related activities, then you’ve found the perfect job for your personality.
4) Compatible work environment
Yes, there is such a thing as compatibility between your personality type and your work environment.
It’s important that the atmosphere, culture, and the people you work with are a good fit.
In other words, another sign that you have the perfect job for your personality type is the fact that you feel comfortable and supported in your workplace.
5) It challenges you
Don’t worry, I’m not talking about anything major, I know that not everyone likes to be challenged!
However, in order to feel motivated and engaged, it’s important for your mind to be stimulated.
So, if the job you’re doing provides the right amount of challenge to keep you motivated and engaged (without overwhelming you, of course) then you should stay where you are.
It means that you’ve found the perfect job for you.
6) It gives you autonomy and independence
Okay, so this one is not for everyone.
Some people don’t want any autonomy.
They don’t want to have to make any decisions or to have any responsibility. All they want is a job where they’re clearly instructed on what they should be doing and that’s it.
Fair enough.
But some personalities crave autonomy and independence and a job that doesn’t provide them is both suffocating and unfulfilling.
So, if a sense of ownership and control over your work is something you need and you have, then it’s another sign that you have the perfect job for your personality type!
7) It gives you a sense of purpose and fulfillment
As I mentioned earlier, jobs play a large part in our lives.
We spend a significant chunk of our adult lives working, which is why it’s important to find the perfect job for your personality type.
And one of the things that makes a job perfect is that it gives you a sense of purpose.
Obviously, not everyone will get a sense of purpose from the same thing. It all depends on your personality.
For example, if you’re a creative type, you’ll feel a sense of purpose and get satisfaction from working as a photojournalist.
And if you’re a nurturing type, then being a teacher or a social worker will definitely give your life meaning and give you the fulfillment that comes with the perfect job.
The bottom line is that the perfect job should provide you with a sense of accomplishment and contribute to your well-being and happiness.
8) There’s a good work-life balance
Look, it doesn’t matter what personality type you have, you still need to have a life outside of work.
That being said, some personalities/jobs have a bigger presence in someone’s life, and others, a smaller one.
Some jobs are 9 to 5 jobs while others may be harder to separate from your personal life.
Take me for example, I do my writing from home which gives me a lot of flexibility. But here’s what that looks like: I write. Then I go for a walk with my dogs. Then I write again. Then I make lunch. Then I go back to writing. Then I might go for coffee with my friends…
All in all, if your job provides a healthy work-life balance and gives you enough flexibility and personal time, then you’ve found the perfect job.
