A deep dive into spirituality: 16 ways to know you are gifted

Have you ever wondered if you were born with the divine reward of an intimate understanding of the universe? Has the vibration of such magnitude that absorbs everything ever driven you?

If yes, here are some practical and helpful ideas for how to know that you are a gifted person, as well as some red flags to be aware of.

Spirituality is the knowledge that you are the universe experiencing itself from one unique perspective, and that your memories, interactions, and relationships are all messages from yourself.

At the end of this article, I have a question for you to answer: so what do you hear? Do you hear the voice of the spirit in yourself? Do you feel the spirit calling you from within, directing and guiding you? If so, where? If not, why not?

16 signs that you are spiritually gifted

1) You are an empath

Most empaths are not pre-programmed to have the incredible spiritual skill that they are born with, despite popular belief. They are just people who have an in-depth understanding of how others feel because they grew up in households with adult figures who were either unpredictable or unsafe.

The quality of being an empath is, in fact, a coping mechanism. If you are hyper-attuned to this phenomenon, you will be able to sense it and, as a result, you will keep yourself safe because you know what to do and what not to do.

This is why, when an empath enters a room, they have a laser focus on exactly what’s wrong, exactly what’s dangerous.

We can simply put ourselves in the shoes of others as empaths.

By being compassionate listeners, non-judgmental about people’s problems, and seeing the good in each other, being adaptable, patient, and tolerant, especially when people behave contrary to our ideas and views, accepting differences in someone, and being happy to see ourselves reflected in others, we improve our communication skills and reach a higher state of consciousness, a human being.

The majority of empaths have a strong sense of social responsibility. This may be both overpowering and distressing at times. Please remember that it is not your responsibility to heal others. It is your responsibility to heal yourself and to inspire others to do the same.

2) Self-love

Human psychology is, in fact, an inner dialogue, a communication with oneself. And because the person wants to communicate with the other, every act of hatred is an act of self-hatred, and every act of love is an act of self-love.

We’re accustomed to the idea of love in a very specific context, that of a person’s limited affection for a very outstanding and desirable partner. However, love, as understood spiritually, includes compassion for everything and everyone. That is why self-love is such a powerful way of bringing yourself into a vibrational space where you can be loved by someone.

Not just anyone, but we might fall in love with a hive of bees, someone else’s child, or the birth of a faraway galaxy.

An intensity of enthusiasm that we usually save for our ego is now flowing more erratically and generously over the entire cosmos and all its living forms and is one of the greatest signs of a spiritually gifted person.

3) You’re a powerfully authentic person

You live your life from the inside out, deeply committed to the idea of what is right, with a pearl of inside wisdom, an inner compass for how to live it.

You’re not in conflict with other people, society, or the outside world because you understand that the universe is not hostile to you; it’s the same as you are, a reflection of your own internal reality. You can’t separate yourself from all you know to be true. You cannot be your own worst enemy.

People hold authenticity as a primary value. Authenticity is society’s way of saying that if you are living the life you want to live, full of love, light, and integrity, then you are truly living.

4) You are brave enough to see, accept, own and express your personal truths

What is personal truth? It is who we really are, our purpose and path, our happiness and success. Personal truth is the recognition that we exist in the world and that we are an integral part of it.

If you’re fearless enough to observe, trust, embrace, and articulate your personal experience of the universe, and engage with the many facets of your being, you are indeed a spiritually gifted person.

5) You can’t do it

The universe is always sending you signals. Maybe it is asking you to go for a walk outside, double-check an email before deleting it, quit procrastinating, or start reading a blog.

This innately beautiful touchstone, the signifier of a unique experience, is so valuable and ethereal that you can’t stop exploring it. It is more than just your mind and body. It feels like everything you need is already inside you.

For a moment, even practical matters are put aside, and you accept a little unsettling yet thrillingly slanted view on things. The everyday world and its pressures are kept at bay. You don’t have to be somewhere or do anything.

There are no imminent dangers or passions, and you are free to look at the world from an unfamiliar viewpoint.

6) You act fast on inspiration

Can someone truly live without taking risks as a part of their everyday life?

True spiritual people understand that nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks. You might fail. You might not be successful. But you realize that if you’re not trying, you’re not living.

If you’re dating a spiritually gifted person, then prepare to embrace life for all that it is.

When you face your fears, real or imagined, and venture into the unknown, you will not only create the life you desire for yourself, but you will also create your happy place.

7) You’re discovering your true spiritual journey

Another sign you’re spiritually gifted? You are slowly discovering that spiritual empowerment comes from within.

The thing with spirituality is that it’s just like everything else in life:

It can be manipulated.

Unfortunately, not all the gurus and experts that preach spirituality do so with our best interests at heart.

Some take advantage to twist spirituality into something toxic, poisonous even.

I learned this from the shaman Rudá Iandé. With over 30 years of experience in the field, he’s seen and experienced it all.

From exhausting positivity to downright harmful spiritual practices, this free video he created tackles a range of toxic spirituality habits.

So what makes Rudá different from the rest? How do you know he’s not also one of the manipulators he warns against?

The answer is simple:

He promotes spiritual empowerment from within.

Rather than telling you how you should practice spirituality, Rudá puts the focus solely on you. Essentially, he puts you back in the driver’s seat of your spiritual journey.

8) You’re a compassionate human being

You have a deep necessity maître (self-love) and a courageous caring attitude toward your own and others’ misery. You can allow the energy of the emotion, the quality of what you’re feeling, to pierce them to the core in some way. It’s easier said than done, but it’s a wonderful way of life.

It is the route of compassion, the path of developing human bravery and kindness.

Please keep in mind that compassion begins and ends with empathy and understanding for all the unattractive parts of ourselves, all the flaws that we don’t want to look at. Compassion isn’t some type of project or goal that we strive to achieve.

There is a lot of warmth and affection in all of us. Touching that sensitive spot is what compassion is really about.

9) You have a genuine sense of connection

Mankind is hardwired to interact with others and to form groups. This is why humans exist in subgroups such as families and communities, and why we feel the true meaning of love and are most fulfilled when we are doing things that benefit the larger good.

If this is a fundamental and essential part of who you are, it is an indication of the strength of character.

You want genuine connections and want to feel important to others. You can connect not just with others, but also with your future self—the version of yourself that you are becoming, the person you know you are intended to be.

10) Negative emotions tend to overwhelm you

Though everyone’s particular triggers are unique to them, it helps to emphasize some of the feelings that we all collectively want to condemn.

Anger, sadness, guilt, and embarrassment are the usual triggers empaths are more susceptible to. These emotions come up in the aftermath of a disappointment, an unsuccessful attempt to set a boundary, or an experience of not particularly behaving in a way we are proud of.

Because overly sensitive people tend to think about the world with intensity, sometimes it can get overwhelming.

To resolve this, first, recognize the pattern. Go to the core of emotion and investigate it. Work on building a circle of people who support and inspire you, who have similar goals and enjoy spending time with them, and most importantly, instead of wasting all your energy trying to control the emotion, what if you let them in?

Allow them to appear. Bring them into your awareness, and use that moment as an opportunity to transform them into something new.

Because if you’re no longer resisting your bad emotions do they have the power to control you anymore?

11) People call you oversensitive

Being spiritually gifted can be associated with a burden of trauma, the experience of being disconnected from a core sense of safety.

A particularly harmful bias affects your viewpoint until you can re-establish that connection: You become hypersensitive, which means you will ascribe intent, overthink, overreact, be provoked by harmless stimuli, personalize neutral events, and remain in mental “combat mode.”

To fix this, meditate, but don’t anticipate all of those sensations, such as fury, fear, grief, and mental chatter, to go away. They won’t.

Through meditating you’ll learn to let them rise up, and then let them go by not reacting to them.

12) Strong intuition

When people talk about using their impulses to create a life they enjoy, they imply that they are doing what their subconscious tells them is best for them. Your instincts lead you to your work, even if it causes you discomfort and struggle.

Sometimes, your instincts may lead you to continue working in a relationship even when things are hard.

Your intuition does not exist to keep you comfortable and ecstatic at all times. It directs you toward what you’re intended to do by highlighting the intersections of your interests, abilities, and ambitions.

13) Vivid dreams, nightmares, and visions

Do you have vivid dreams, nightmares, or visions? A new study suggests that people with these experiences are more likely to have an elevated spiritual frequency.

According to Radboud University researchers who asked participants about their dream-like experiences, those who reported having one or more such encounters, as well as higher spiritual and paranormal sensations, had a stronger connection to the Divine Spirit.

They were more likely to report having a deep power frequency during the day. The findings also suggest a link between dreaming and awakening, as well as the unconscious and the conscious mind.

We must be aware to listen to these intuitive ideas and use them wisely to make our lives better.

14) People call you “an old soul”

People refer to you as “an old soul.” What do you think it means?

An old soul means that you have wisdom that would be practical to your group of friends who are just starting in life. It might simply indicate that you have knowledge that others do not.

If that’s the case, wouldn’t you like to put it to good use?

You are smarter than the majority of people your age. You’ve seen and experienced more of life than they have, and you’ve personally encountered enough to have finally mastered the lessons required to survive on this planet without becoming too disoriented to appreciate what you have.

15) You can manifest things

Something fills you with passion and purpose, something that drives you to do work that stands up for your ideals and changes your community, or your country, or your world.

You have a spirit and a calling that leads you to move through the world as a leader, a teacher, a healer, a poet or writer, a songwriter, a minister, a political activist, an artist, a scientist, or an entrepreneur. You can manifest truth and light in your daily life.

You feel that the world is precious and that you have come to love the beauty in it. When you feel this calling deeply within yourself, it changes the way you connect with the world. It increases your empathy and your capacity for deep work.

It gives you hope, which is essential to leading your life.

16) You are at peace with being alone

It happens over time, not necessarily overnight. It’s much easier said than done, but you know you are ready to be alone, at peace with having no social interactions. You can be happy with your own company.

There are still moments, though, where you feel off-kilter. Sometimes these are hangovers from traumatic experiences in the past. Sometimes they’re just bad anxiety. These challenges can feel overwhelming despite the support of friends and family.

If this is the case, you might just need the solace of being alone.
