It was a love story that captivated the world. A British Prince falling for a beautiful American actress.
Such is the interest in this modern-day fairytale couple that over 2.4 million of us tuned in to watch the first in the Netflix show giving us a greater glimpse into their private lives.
Let’s take a look at the most romantic moments between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from the documentary series.
1) “This is a great love story”
One of the most romantic scenes of the Netflix series comes in the first few opening minutes.
We watch as the couple goes for a walk, just like any other regular family. Their eldest son Archie can be seen toddling in front, with Meghan laughing as she asks: “Archie you’re having fun?”.
As Harry pushes the stroller with their daughter Lilibet, his voiceover declares:
“This is a great love story and the craziest thing is that I think this love story is only just getting started”.
We all grew up on stories of Prince Charming and his fairytale princess finding their happily ever after, and this romance seems straight out of a storybook.

2) How they met through Instagram
It seems everyone slides into DM’s these days, even royals.
This modern method of meeting might not be quite as fairytale as losing your glass slipper, but there’s something about their down-to-earth love story that makes it all the more compelling.
It was reported in the past that the pair met through a mutual friend, but the documentary series sheds more light on it all.
Disclosing the 21st-century twist, Harry recalls: “Meghan and I met over Instagram.”
“I was scrolling through my feed and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, like a Snapchat…with dog ears.”
To which Meghan laughs and says, “Oh gosh, dog ears! That’s what he saw of me!”
Although clearly, Harry didn’t mind. “That was the first thing, I was like ‘WHO IS THAT?,” he recalls.
Their mutual friend then approached Meghan to see if she was interested, sending her an email.
“Between you and I, I thought you might want to know this, being newly single and all. I put our Snapchat on Instagram and Prince Haz follows me (he’s a friend) he called me last night dying to meet you. Hehehe. I might just have to set you up.”
After doing her own research, in the form of a little bit of cyberstalking of Harry’s Insta profile (see, we’ve all done it!), Meghan liked what she saw enough to want to know more.
#swoon.

3) Harry’s first date nerves
It was revealed for the first time in the documentary that Harry didn’t exactly make the best first impression, keeping Meghan waiting on their first date at Soho House in central London.
Meghan told viewers that as she sat there, she started to suspect that maybe Harry was just one of those egotistical guys that expected a girl to wait around for him.
“Then, I didn’t know him. So I was like, ‘Is this what he does?’ Got it – this I’m not doing.”
After getting stuck in traffic and arriving 30 minutes late, Harry couldn’t hide his lack of composure, admitting to viewers: “I was panicking. I was freaking out. I started sweating”.
Luckily for Harry, Meghan quickly realized that he clearly wasn’t the player she had begun to fear he might be.
In fact, Harry seemed to be embarrassed just thinking about it all as he explains, “When I walked in, I was a hot sweaty ball of mess”
His flustered demeanor made it obvious to Meghan, “No, that’s not what you are.”

4) The couple’s first photo together
The grainy black-and-white image certainly isn’t going to win any photography awards. Neither is it one of the most glamorous of the couple’s photos together. But it’s more what this photo represents that makes it special.
The sheer joy they felt in the moment it was taken is evident. The connection is clear.
It’s a true glimpse into the private intimacy between this very public couple.
Just a couple of days after their first date, Meghan was preparing to fly home. And so before she left, the pair decided to meet for dinner.
Describing how much fun they had together, it was apparently at this moment that both realized they had something special.
Megan said, “There was one photo. We just wanted to capture the feeling of just sitting in that little restaurant and going “oh my gosh. I think we’re going to give it a go”.
As Harry chimes in, “That was when it just hit me. Okay, this girl, this woman is amazing, is everything that I’ve been looking for. And she’s so comfortable and so relaxed in my company.”

5) Harry opening his heart to love
“When I got to know Meghan more and more, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m really falling in love with this girl. So despite my fear, I just opened my heart to see what’s going to happen.’”

6) When Harry compares Meghan to his mom
During the documentary, Harry opens up about his memories of his late mother Princess Diana.
He draws parallels between his wife and mom, saying, “So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum”.
“She has the same compassion. She has the same empathy. She has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her”
Later we see that Princess Diana’s memory is very much being kept alive within the family home.
A home video clip shows a framed photograph of Diana and their baby son Archie, as Meghan can be heard telling him, “That’s your Grandma Diana”.

7) Their unexpected trip to Botswana together
They say that love makes you do crazy things. The couple’s spontaneous trip to Botswana together, after meeting only twice, was a wild leap of faith.
Trying to make their schedules work was looking tricky. They both discovered that they had the same week off together, the only problem was, Harry was already committed to going to Botswana.
The solution? Invite Meghan to join him!
“I was astonished that she said yes,” Harry admitted. “This woman that I’ve only met twice, she’s coming to Botswana and we’re going to be living in a tent for five days. Wow.”
The trip was the first time they’d seen each other in a month.
But Meghan says she knew they needed that alone time, “We had to get to know each other before the rest of the world and before the media joined in.”
It was a risk. But one that ended up cementing their relationship as Meghan explained, “We could both be completely ourselves. There were no distractions, no cell phone signal, no mirrors, no ‘how do I look?’ Thankfully we really liked each other.”

8) Secret visits to Kensington Palace in the early days of dating
Sneaking around can be sexy, but for Harry and Meghan it was also essential in the early days of their romance.
Meghan had created a “two week rule”. In order to keep things alive she said they shouldn’t let more than a fortnight pass by without seeing one another.
Logistically that was always going to be a challenge. And it made more sense for the far lesser known of the pair, Meghan, to put in most of the leg work.
After all, she could still get on a commercial flight and travel with relative ease.
To escape the glare of the cameras and get to know each other in privacy, Harry would sneak Meghan into Kensington Palace.
Meghan describes those early days of courtships as “exciting, relaxed and easy.”
The pair would take strolls around the grounds and generally become even more loved up!
They managed to keep their relationship a secret before the story broke in early November 2006.

9) Harry’s Candlelit proposal to Meghan
Whilst we already knew some of the details of Harry’s proposal, the couple shared even more, along with some personal snaps of the occasion.
Harry explained that because he needed his grandmother the Queen’s permission to propose, it had to be done in the UK.
After laying out 15 electric candles in the middle of a walled garden at Kensington Palace, Harry popped the question.
Showing his playful side, when the interviewer asked him “what position were you in?”, he quickly retorted with a smirk on his face, “er, downward dog”.
To which Meghan started laughing,“that was good, that’s really clever, you see he’s funny.”
“Of course, I got down on one knee” he admitted.
Despite the romance of the proposal, it didn’t sound as though it didn’t come as much of a surprise.
“I popped a bottle of champagne while she was roasting a chicken and that kind of slightly gave the game away, she was like “you never drink campaign what’s the occasion” and I was like I don’t know just had it lying around,” Harry said.

10) What the royal family thought of Meghan
“I remember my family first meeting her and being incredibly impressed. Some of them didn’t quite know what to do with themselves…They were surprised, maybe surprised that a ginger could land such a beautiful woman and such an intelligent woman.”
