We live in a world where social media facilitates the loud and widespread sharing of shallow opinions by people who are anything but profound thinkers.

But you’re not like that, are you?

You prefer to quietly explore the depths of knowledge, seek unconventional wisdom, and explore life’s mysteries.

Your friends often joke that you’re a philosopher and say stuff like, “Wow, that’s deep” but you don’t take them seriously.

Well, I’ve got news for you – it sounds to me like you’re a profound thinker (even if you don’t think so).

If you’re not convinced, here are 15 rare signs you’re a profound thinker.

Let’s jump right in:

1) You question everything

Now, some people will accept pretty much everything they’re told, especially if it comes from someone with authority.

For example, my grandma will believe anything a random quack doctor says on TV because he’s on TV, and the TV doesn’t lie!

But not you.

Not only will you doubt everything you hear on TV, but you’ll question real doctors, intellectuals, scientists, and most of all – politicians

There’s just no way you’re going to accept what someone says without thinking about it, doing some research, and finding out what others have to say on the topic.

The bottom line is that if you have an innate curiosity that drives you to question the status quo, challenge assumptions, and explore alternative perspectives – it’s a rare sign that you’re a profound thinker.

2) You often get lost in thought

Have you ever found yourself shaken back to reality by a friend?

Have you ever been asked, “Where did you go just then?”

If you tend to get lost in thought, it could be another sign that you’re a profound thinker.

You see, the thing about profound thinkers is that when they come across a captivating idea or concept, they’ll get lost in thought.

It doesn’t matter where they are or what’s going on, they’ll just disappear somewhere else for a moment. It’s like time ceases to exist together with the external world.

3) You value solitude

The truth about profound thinkers is that solitude allows them to take the time to think about a subject without being interrupted.

Now, this doesn’t mean that they don’t like to socialize or that they’re total recluses. But every now and again, they need some alone time to be with their thoughts.

In short: If you like to spend time alone to reflect and contemplate, and if that often leads to deep insights and ideas, it’s another sign that you’re a profound thinker.

4) You’re a keen observer

Here’s another rare sign that you’re a profound thinker: you’re a keen observer.

No matter where you are or what you’re doing, nothing gets by you.

And the best part?

You have an extremely keen eye for detail which means you notice things that other people miss. By noticing patterns and nuances, you’re able to connect the dots before everyone else. You’re a regular Sherlock Holmes!

Pretty neat skill, isn’t it?

5) You have a thirst for knowledge

Another thing about profound thinkers is that they have an almost insatiable thirst for knowledge.

So, let’s look at you:

  • Do you love to read?
  • Do you watch documentary channels to learn about history, science, and different cultures?
  • When you meet someone interesting, do you find yourself unable to stop asking questions?
  • Are you an avid believer in lifelong learning?
  • Do you keep signing up for online courses?

If you check some or all of the above boxes, I’d say it’s a pretty obvious sign that you’re a profound thinker who actively seeks out new information and has a real thirst for knowledge.

Way to go. Keep expanding your intellectual horizons!

6) You appreciate silence

Did you know that some people are afraid of silence?

It’s true.

It makes them uncomfortable for some reason. That’s why when they’re in the company of other people, they’ll talk about anything to fill the silence, and when they’re alone, they’ll have the radio or TV on.

But you’re not afraid of silence, are you?

In fact, you kinda like it. It gives you a chance to recharge your batteries and reflect on all sorts of things.

I hear you, I’m like that myself.

Believe it or not, it’s another sign that you’re a profound thinker.

7) You ask profound questions

The great thing about profound thinkers like yourself is that you cut through the bullshit and go straight for the interesting and deep questions.

There’s no wasting time on trivial questions like, “What’s with all this rain?”, oh no. You’ll be asking people if they’re happy with their lives and where they see themselves 10 years from now.

Admit it, you’ve made more than one person unintentionally uncomfortable with your real questions, and that’s a rare sign of a profound thinker.

8) You don’t fear the unknown

For some people, the unknown can be super scary.

That’s why they do everything in their power to be prepared for all possible outcomes. That’s why they like to plan everything to the last detail.

But if you’re a profound thinker – like I think you are – then you have no problem with uncertainty.

In fact, you embrace uncertainty and the unknown because you see it as a chance to learn and experience something new.

9) You’re open-minded

The great thing about people like you (profound thinkers) is how open-minded you are.

Unlike people who like to judge a book by its cover and are quick to have opinions on people and topics they don’t know much about, you like to gather information and get to know a person first.

But that’s not all.

Even when you get to know someone and you find out that their points of view are completely different from yours, you don’t dismiss them. That’s because you’re open to new ideas and perspectives.

A profound thinker recognizes that true wisdom lies in embracing different points of view and challenging their own beliefs.

The bottom line is that if more people were like you, I do believe we’d have fewer wars and conflicts in the world.

10) You’re introspective

It’s kind of obvious if you think about it.

I mean, how can you be a profound thinker and not engage in self-reflection?

If you like to spend ages analyzing your own thoughts and feelings and trying to understand what drives you, that’s another surefire sign that you’re a profound thinker.

And the great thing is that your introspection allows you to understand the world around you better as well as your place in it.

11) You question the status quo

Who says that just because things are a certain way they have to say that way?

The thing about profound thinkers is that they don’t just blindly accept societal norms and conventions. They question the status quo, seeking to understand the why and wherefore.

And if they’re not satisfied with the answer, they have no trouble challenging the status quo!

Does that sound like you?

Sure sounds like me.

12) You have a broad range of interests

Do you have a wide range of interests?

You see, because they’re curious about the world around them and believe in lifelong learning, profound thinkers are interested in everything from literature to philosophy, to art, to history, to politics, to science and technology.

There’s just so much to learn and to contemplate, and so little time!

13) You’re driven by curiosity

Some people are driven by money, others by success.

Profound thinkers are driven by curiosity.

That means that if what propels you forward is a thirst for knowledge and a curiosity unlike no other, it’s another sign that you’re a profound thinker.

14) You’re a problem-solver

One of the best presents you could give a profound thinker is a complex problem or puzzle to solve. They just love to exercise their minds and come up with out-of-the-box solutions.

Now, think.

  • Do people often turn to you when they have a problem to solve?
  • Do you enjoy coming up with innovative solutions to various problems?
  • At work, when there’s an obstacle to overcome, are you the first person to sit down and start to look for a solution while everyone else is panicking?
  • Do you play chess to relax?

If the above sound like you, then I have news for you. Even if you never considered yourself a profound thinker, it is in fact what you are.

15) You can be pretty indecisive

I have to admit that I happen to be indecisive and it drives my husband insane.

But, I can’t help it, and if you’re a profound thinker, neither can you.

We tend to overthink and overanalyze and when it comes to making a decision, we like to weigh the pros and cons and consider all the options… and yeah, sometimes we’re unsure even about the most trivial things.

But hey, whatcha gonna do?
