Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that the Leo is a strong contender for the most charismatic, captivating sign. Whether you’re driven to them by love or hate, there’s just something about Leos that draws you in.
Ruled by the sun, Leos (July 23 – August 22) are one of the most misunderstood signs of the zodiac. Usually seen as self-centered or egotistic, there is actually more to Leos than what meets the eye.
Wondering what these are? Well, you’re in luck: in this article, we’re going to look at the 10 most prominent personality traits of the Leo and why their presence can be so magnetic.
If there’s one thing Leos are known for, it’s their raging confidence. They like who they are, how they look, and unapologetically so—they don’t give a damn about what others think of them.
Leos understand that being confident is not about not having insecurities; it’s about handling these insecurities well enough to feel at home in your body and at ease with who you are.
This makes Leos so attractive, and not just in the conventional way—they’re attractive because of the way they carry themselves. The way they walk like they’re strutting down the runway of New York Fashion Week; the way they dress like it’s the Met Gala; and the way they speak like they’re charming the pants off of everybody in the room.
Leos are this confident because they know that you can get whatever you want as long as you believe you deserve it.
Even if someone insults or talks crap about a Leo, it doesn’t affect their self-image. They’re self-assured enough to know that these insults hold no truth. For them, as long as they like what they see in the mirror and love who they are, no one else’s opinion matters but their own.
This is the reason why they have such a healthy self and body image.
2) Have a positive self and body image
There is no doubt that beauty standards, especially for women, have always been incredibly unattainable. This is primarily because we associate beauty with things that are difficult to achieve, which often results in a lot of people having an unhealthy self- and body image.
However, Leos do not allow these beauty standards to affect the way they look at themselves.
Of course, like everyone else, a leo has insecurities, too. Before they were confident, they, too, were insecure. Some Leos had to learn how it feels to be plagued by insecurities before they learned to be confident.
The difference? Leos know how to handle their insecurities.
One thing we can learn about Leos is how they know that they can’t meet every single beauty standard there is, and that’s fine. It doesn’t make them any less beautiful.

3) Likes being the center of attention
Being the center of attention can be unnerving. Knowing that a crowd of people has its eyes on you, observing your every word and action, with their eyes peeled for the slightest slip-up? My knees shake at the idea.
But rather than feeling nervous about this, Leos feel a certain kind of high in being the center of attention.
Leos like when they’re the center of attention in a room full of people. They’re eloquent enough to articulate every thought, and charismatic enough to have every stutter seem charming. For them, being the center of attention is not a bad place to be; rather, it’s an opportunity to be seen and admired for their talents.
Wondering why so many Leos end up becoming good actors, musicians, fashion models, and politicians? Well, this is precisely why: Leos don’t shy away from the limelight, they thrive in it.
4) Can command a crowd
Commanding a crowd can be a daunting task. But for Leos? Not really.
Leos know how to captivate an audience’s attention and keep it for as long as they’re onstage. They don’t bore, because they know how to entertain the audience, how to make them laugh, and how to make them care about what they’re saying.
One mistake that Leos know not to make is to be afraid of the crowd. Even though it can be scary, Leos know that there’s no use being afraid. After all, the crowd won’t eat you alive, will they? Leos know not to get captivated by the fear by captivating the crowd instead.
This is why Leos make incredible comedians. James Corden and Bo Burnhan are two of the most notable comedians with a Leo sign. But this ability to command a large group of people doesn’t only make them good comedians; it also makes them great leaders.
5) Natural-born leader
Leading a group of people is one of the most difficult, but very important, tasks there is. Leos, however, tend to be natural-born leaders. They take control effortlessly, usually leading people to achieve a common goal efficiently.
How do they do this?
First, they know how to take initiative. They don’t wait around for someone else to take charge—they just do. Sometimes, people think they can be ‘bossy’, but Leos know first and foremost aim to achieve their goals than think about what people think about them.
Next, they organize. Leos have a to-do list of goals that they need to achieve. This is how they keep track of their progress and of the things they need to do.
Lastly, they listen. An effective leader knows that in order to actually lead the people, they need to listen to what the people need. If you neglect the needs of your constituents and put your own interests before theirs, that makes you a tyrant, not a leader.
As good leaders, they also know that being charming is an essential leadership trait.
People can say that what makes a person charming is their smile. Their perfect hair. The way they dress. The way they know to say the right words at the right time.
While this can all contribute to how a person can be seen as charming, it’s actually a lot more simpler than that—and Leos know this perfectly well.
Leos are charming because they know how to make you feel special. When they talk to you, they make you feel like you’re the most interesting person in the world. They ask questions about you like they just can’t get enough, and they have a way of making you open up to them so easily.
Have you ever been with someone who makes you feel so effortlessly special? With a presence so magnetic that you just can’t help but feel drawn to them? That’s how it feels to be with a leo.
7) Self aware
Leos can sometimes be misunderstood as egotistic. While this can be true for underdeveloped Leos, most of them are actually self-aware rather than self-centered.
Why are Leos often misunderstood?
Because in order to have self-awareness, you must know yourself very well and have a deep understanding of who you are—and a lot of people think this to be narcissism.
But this can’t be farther from the truth. Leos are self-aware because they understand themselves very well: what they like and don’t like, from the circles of people they prefer to be in down to the type of content they like to see on social media.
Leos don’t think the world revolves around them, but they are aware that they often desire to be at the center of it. They are ruled by the sun, after all. They don’t allow other people to become the main character of their own story; they are the main character.
8) Fiercely loyal
Did you know that lions are the only cats that live in groups?
Well, just like their namesake, Leos are fiercely loyal to their kin. Whether it be friends or family, they will stick by their loved ones no matter what.
Because of their loyalty, Leos are very protective of the people they love. You can’t talk crap about someone they love in front of them—they will bite back. They protect the pride and reputation of the people they love like it’s their own.
Leos consistently treat their friends and family with love, kindness, and compassion. They celebrate the successes of their loved ones without a single ounce of envy. When a Leo friend tells you they’re happy for you, they are truly happy for you, period, with no bitter feelings.
Leos are extremely kind and generous. They’re the kind of people who would empty their bank accounts every Christmas just to give everyone the gift that they want, the type who would empty their own pockets if it could help someone in need. That’s just how compassionate they are.
As big-hearted beings, Leos like to do small acts of kindness that makes someone’s day so much better.
At social events, if a shy person gets talked over or interrupted, they’re the type who would ask, “sorry, you were saying?”
Even though they’re rushing, if someone is lost, they’d still take a moment to give them the right directions.
If they see an old person crossing the street, they make an effort to stop and help them get across safely.
Despite these acts of kindness, Leos don’t feel the need to brag about them. For them, there are other, bigger things to take pride in.
Ah, pride. One of the seven deadly sins. People generally think negatively of those who are too proud of themselves, but Leos believe pride is one of the most important traits a person could have.
Leos know how it feels to be shamed; to be wrongfully criticized for who they are; to be led to believe their mere existence is a mistake. This is why their pride is strong and great—because it took them a long, arduous process to learn that all of this is wrong.
They hold onto their pride because for so long, they were led to believe they are unlovable. Their pride protects them from feeling this way ever again.
Leos are usually misunderstood as selfish and egoistic. While this is true for underdeveloped Leos, most of them are actually self-aware rather than self-centered. They’re most prominent traits certainly make them good friends, family, and lovers. Having a Leo in your life is always a good thing.
