I’ve been using ClickFunnels for 6 months.
My results are impressive: I increased my eBook sales by 110% after switching from Shopify to ClickFunnels.
There’s plenty of love for ClickFunnels on the internet. I’ve come across countless inspiring examples of people making a lot of money from using it.
Yet there isn’t a lot of objective information available about ClickFunnels for people completely new to the platform.
So I have written an honest, unbiased review of ClickFunnels based on my personal experience with it over the last 6 months.
In this ClickFunnels review, I provide a comprehensive overview of ClickFunnels. I’ll walk you through the steps you need to follow to set up your free trial and get your very first funnel up and running.
And I’ll show you exactly how I used ClickFunnels to increase my own eBook sales.
Just to be clear: I’m not a techie. I can’t code. And I have very limited design skills. I’m just a blogger who wanted to sell more eBooks and ClickFunnels was the platform that helped me do this.
This ClickFunnels review will tell you absolutely everything you need to know about using Clickfunnels. No fluff. No hyperbole. Just the essential information you need to decide whether ClickFunnels is right for your business.
We have A LOT to get through.
Let’s get started.
(This is a very detailed review of ClickFunnels. If you’re short on time then use the table of contents below to navigate to the topics that interest you most).
Note: This post contains affiliate links which means I’ll make a commission if you sign up to ClickFunnels. However, it certainly didn’t stop me from sharing the bad about the platform below.
What is ClickFunnels?
ClickFunnels is an all-in-one sales page and funnel builder that will help you sell more of your products as well as grow an email list.
Since Russell Brunson created ClickFunnels in 2014, it has quickly became the most popular online sales funnel builder. According to Forbes, with its simple focus on converting visitors into buyers, Click Funnels are “silently revolutionizing the online marketing industry.”
Brunson is an internet marketing whiz and author of the incredible book DotCom Secrets. I actually first learned about ClickFunnels from this book.
As a business owner, it’s a great feeling to put the finishing touches on a product and offer it for sale.
But how do you actually persuade people to buy your product?
It’s something I really struggled with when I first started selling eBooks. After reading this book, I realized that there was one thing I needed to generate more sales:
A sales funnel.
(Update: I was just emailed by Russel Brunson about a special Christmas webinar. Apparently the crew over at ClickFunnels is cooking up a MAJOR Christmas surprise. Check it out here).
What is a sales funnel?
Not everybody who visits your website will turn into a customer (or a high-paying customer). In fact, 96% of people who come to your site aren’t ready to buy yet. Yikes.
You need an intuitive way to take your web visitors from browser to paying customer.
The ideal and simplest way to achieve this is through a sales funnel.
A sales funnel is a series of pages that people have to navigate through to take the desired action, such as buying your products.
Here’s how a sales funnel works:
At the top of the funnel, you have your overall prospective customers who are in the “awareness” phase. During this phase, your goal is to turn them into leads by encouraging them to sign up for your email list.
At this point, these leads are cold and aren’t ready to buy (just yet).
But as you work your way down the funnel, you’ll be able to nurture those leads into hot leads that have their credit cards out and are ready to purchase your product.
But creating your own sales funnel can take weeks (if not months).
There’s a science behind creating landing pages that sell, and if you aren’t an expert in funnels and landing page development, you could be turning your customers away and missing out on sales.
Here’s where ClickFunnels comes in.
The way I use ClickFunnels may be different to how you use it. As eBooks are relatively low priced items, I don’t need to capture the email addresses of potential customers and warm them up. As I explain below, I love ClickFunnels because it enables me to “upsell” and “downsell” with ease.
As there are many ways to skin a cat, there are many ways to design a sales funnel.
Is a sales funnel necessary?
You might be thinking that a sales funnel is overly complicated and only for bigger businesses and aggressive marketers.
But sales funnels can work for anyone, no matter how big or small the business.
They are also not intrusive to your customers if they are designed right. In fact, they can be helpful to your customers by offering them products or services they want at a better price than they’ll find elsewhere.
Remember: 96% of people who come to your website aren’t ready to buy. If you don’t have a method in place to take them from prospect to buyer, you’re potentially leaving thousands of dollars on the table.
Who is ClickFunnels for?
ClickFunnels is designed for business owners who are looking to increase their sales without having to waste time coding out landing pages, membership portals and payment pages.
It is also for business owners who:
- Don’t have the technical knowledge to code and optimize landing pages
- Don’t have the time to code and optimize landing pages
- Want to utilize a sales funnel to increase their conversions and sales value
- Have a small team and would prefer not to hire outside professionals for web development help.
If, like me, you tick all those boxes then keep on reading.
This ClickFunnels review is going to give you an excellent overview of using ClickFunnels and help you decide whether or not the platform will work well for you.
ClickFunnels pricing: How much does it cost?
ClickFunnels has two membership options: ClickFunnels and ClickFunnels Platinum.
ClickFunnels (basic account)
The basic ClickFunnels plan is $97 USD/month.
It comes with everything someone just starting out might need, including 20 funnels, 100 pages, one user login, three different types of payment gateways (including Paypal and Stripe), the ability to connect up to three domains and resources to help you grow as a marketer.
Your membership includes support, although you won’t get priority support like you do with ClickFunnels Platinum.
On top of all this, you’ll also get access to “Funnel Flix”, a library with a bunch of courses and training from some great online marketers.
Who this plan is right for: This is a good starting point for a small business who see the value in funnel creation, but at this point in time, don’t have the need to create multiple and more complex funnels.
Sign up to the 14-day free trial here and see if the standard plan works for you.
ClickFunnels Platinum is $297 USD/month.
The Platinum plan will allow you to create unlimited funnels and landing pages, have nine different payment gateways, and add up to three team members with individual logins and specific admin rights.
Your ClickFunnels Platinum plan will also grant you access to unlimited Follow-Up Funnels, which can help you better track your leads and their lifetime value and create targeted upsells or downsells.
You’ll also receive access to priority support, which can be crucial if you aren’t very technical.
Imagine you are about to launch a funnel and suddenly something isn’t working. Although ClickFunnels is pretty intuitive, there is still a lot of functionality you can use, and things can go wrong. Having access to priority support can help smooth out any last-minute problems that may arise.
All this comes with Funnel Flix, a library that packed with training from expert marketers, access to an exclusive forum for ClickFunnels members only, plus additional training and courses.
Who this plan is right for: ClickFunnels Platinum is perfect for the business owner who is serious about scaling their business and wants all the bells and whistles that ClickFunnels offers.
Check out the 14-day free trial here and see if the Platinum plan works for you.
Exclusive ClickFunnels 14-day free trial
We all understand the importance of trying-before-buying.
And ClickFunnels offers a pretty amazing 100% free 14-day trial.
During your trial, you’ll gain full access to ClickFunnels so that you can build and test your own funnels and even make a few sales while you’re at it.
But being able to test drive ClickFunnels without any limitations isn’t even the best part.
With your ClickFunnels free trial, you’ll gain access to select courses and training from Funnels Flix. These resource will both inspire you and give you the practical insights you need to hit the ground running with your first funnel.
I watched several of these videos when I first joined ClickFunnels and found them to be extremely useful. Even though I am an experienced user now, it’s on my to-do list to watch the rest of them over the coming months.
Here’s a quick overview of the training you’re going to get immediate access to (for free during your trial period):
The simple truth is that to succeed with ClickFunnels (and selling on the web more generally), you need a decent product to sell.
And actually deciding on a product is probably the hardest part of starting your own business.
This is why this free resource is so valuable. Russell Brunson shares a bunch of product ideas and provides step-by-step instructions to actually create them. If you don’t have a product yet, this will help you create your very own product in less than a few days.
Funnel Builder Secrets
This training is worth $1,997 alone but will be given to you for free with your trial. In fact, 10,000 people have paid the full ticket price for this training so getting access to it for free is a pretty terrific deal.
Brendon and Kaelin Poulin took this training three years ago and built a $10 million business of the back of it. You can learn more about their story here.
Ad Skills With Justin Brooke
Even if you have the best product in the world, if you don’t have traffic to your website, it will be impossible to sell.
I’ve dabbled with Facebook and Google ads and it can be hard work. Luckily I get a good amount of organic traffic to my site and paid ads aren’t a priority at the moment. If organic traffic isn’t something that’s practical for you, paid ads are essential.
This training gives some really practical strategies to drive traffic to your pages using ads, including from Facebook, Google, YouTube, and Twitter.
Tony Robbins Private Collection
You’ll also get access to seven different private training videos from Tony Robbins. Not my cup of tea, but I know some people who absolutely love him.
Bonus #1: 100+ Funnel Templates
This bonus seems to have been added only recently. It certainly wasn’t available to me when I signed up to ClickFunnels 6 months ago!
You get an additional 102 professionally designed funnels that you can simply plug in and publish.
Bonus #2: Funnel Hacker Forum
Unlike most of the resources above, I’ve never actually used the ClickFunnels Hacker Forum. But if you want to chat to other ClickFunnels members, and potentially learn from them, this could be a worthwhile thing to be part of.
As you can see, the ClickFunnels’ free trial is incredibly valuable with resources alone. Even if you don’t end up using ClickFunnels after the 14 day trial period, you can learn an incredible amount about the science and psychology of selling from these resources.
I signed up to the 14-day free trial when I first made the switch from Shopify to Clickfunnels. Within a day I had built several funnels and I knew I was never going back to Shopify.
So I highly recommend you at least giving it a try.

How to create a ClickFunnels account
Getting started with ClickFunnels is very simple.
To start, click here so you can access your free 14-day trial.
On the signup page, you’ll need to enter your full name along with your email and a password.
Next, choose the plan you’d like to try out.
Here’s what I recommend doing:
As the trial is free, there’s no downside to selecting the Platinum plan so you can really dive deep and experience all that ClickFunnels has to offer.
Additionally, the Platinum plan offers priority support with a live chat, so you’ll be able to get help immediately if you get stuck.
You can always downgrade your plan in the dashboard at the conclusion of the 14-day free trial period.
Once you have selected your plan, you will need to fill out a brief form and then you will be on your way to beginning your free ClickFunnels trial.
Note that you do have to provide you credit card details when you register for the trial. Your card will won’t be charged until the trial period is over though. And you can cancel your subscription at any time.
Setting up your ClickFunnels account
There are a few things you will want to set up before you create your funnels.
Don’t get overwhelmed at this step! ClickFunnels has created some really practical resources and training videos to help you if you get stuck.
Just Google your specific problem and a Clickfunnels help video will invariably appear.
Let’s learn how to quickly set up your:
- Email marketing platform (to collect leads)
- Payment gateways (to receive payment)
- Custom domain (to brand your landing pages)
Once you have these three items set up, you’ll be able to build your first funnel and start making some money.
If you plan to use the basic plan, you will need external email marketing software.
To integrate your email software, go to your main dashboard and hover over your name in the upper right-hand corner.
Click on “Account Settings” from the dropdown menu that appears.
Then, along the left-hand side, click on “Integrations”. Once you are on the Integrations page, you can click the orange button to add a new integration.
ClickFunnels has email integration tutorials for many popular email marketing platforms. You can access those tutorials here.
If you don’t see your software listed, you can reach out to support and they should be able to help.
In order to collect payment from your customers, you will need to set up a payment gateway. You can do this on your 14-day free trial.
This means you can make money during the trial period.
In the same dashboard, click on “Payment Gateways” along the left-hand side and then select “+ Add New Payment Gateway”.
Click here to see a full list of tutorials on how to integrate various payment gateways to your ClickFunnels account.
When you create a funnel, ClickFunnels is going to generate a domain for you to send traffic to.
For example, the URLs for my eBooks are hackspirit.clickfunnels.com/name-of-ebook.
However, you can create a custom domain so that your URL is your brand name.
If I wanted to, I could create URLs that looked like hackspirit.com/name-of-ebook. This is something I will probably do soon.
You have a couple of different options to create a custom domain. First, if you already have a website, you can connect that domain to ClickFunnels. The process is a little complicated (which is why I haven’t done it yet). This tutorial shows you how to do it.
If you don’t have a website (or a domain), ClickFunnels can provide you with one free domain.
To start, click on “Domains” tab along the left-hand side and then head into “+ Add New Domain”.
You can then register a new domain or add an existing domain.
How to create your first funnel in ClickFunnels
You can use ClickFunnels to build:
- Landing pages
- Opt In Pages
- Squeeze pages
- Membership sites
After you select your initial page (the one you’ll be driving traffic to), you can then create your sales funnel, complete with order bumps, upsells and downsells.
There are 22 types of funnels built into ClickFunnels that you can start using immediately.
(If you’re not ready to sell a product yet, creating a test funnel is an excellent way to get familiar with the software).
I’m going to show you how you can have a simple funnel set up so you can start making sales right now.
First, head back to your homepage and hover over “Click Funnels” and then click on “Build Funnel” in the dropdown menu.
Next, choose which type of funnel you’d like to create.
ClickFunnels makes funnel creation pretty easy.
By selecting which type of funnel you are going to create, you’ll be shown different funnels and landing pages that are optimized for each specific goal.
For this example, let’s say you want to sell a product through a sales funnel.
Here comes the fun part.
After inputting your goal and type of funnel, ClickFunnels is going to set up a funnel that is almost ready to go.
You can customize it as much or as little as you’d like.
For each page, you are able to choose from a lot of different templates where you can replace the text and images with your own content. You can also create your own landing page from scratch with ClickFunnels’ drag-and-drop builder.
Whichever path you choose, you do not need any coding experience to create professional landing pages.
I have absolutely no coding chops and I was able to create my first funnel without much hassle.
While ClickFunnels has pages (e.g. steps in the funnel) set up for you, you can also easily add your own pages or delete pages to customize the length of your funnel.
The last step before we publish our funnel is to name it and apply any tags to it. Tags aren’t necessary but can help you organize your funnels if you plan to have several.
Case study: How I increased my eBook sales by 110%
One way my website Hack Spirit makes money is by selling eBooks.
Creating these eBooks was relatively straightforward. I’ve been writing about personal development and eastern philosophy for years and turning my knowledge into eBooks was an obvious thing to do.
Actually selling these eBooks proved to be much harder.
Having never sold a product before, I signed up to Shopify two years ago. I don’t really recall why I chose Shopify in the first place. I was an e-commerce noob and Shopify was a ubiquitous e-commerce platform that everyone else seemed to be using. I guess I just went with the herd.
People can have great success in selling their products on Shopify.
But I didn’t.
After 18 months of being frustrated by the lack of functionality and ugly looking sales pages for eBooks, I switched to ClickFunnels.
The results have far exceeded my expectations.
My sales have increased by 110%.
The sales pages for my books are much more visually appealing on ClickFunnels. They were extremely easy to create (as a non-techie with few design skills). I was able to set up my pages without wasting any energy on design, optimization or coding.
Most importantly, I was finally able to introduce what I needed: a sales funnel. As a result, my average order value increased from $11 to $19.
My magic bullet: The upsell
There are a number of funnel designs I could have chosen from within Clickfunnels. I settled on a version of the 2-Step TripWire. The key to this funnel is to offer an irresistible upsell.
The concept of a 2-Step TripWire is pretty simple. It involves a low priced initial item being purchased, and then immediately offering them a high-priced 1-click upsell. If the upsell is rejected then your contingency offer is a lower priced 1-click downsell.
My low priced item is a single eBook, my 1-click upsell is a bundle of all 7 of my eBooks, and my 1-click downsell is 2 eBooks.
What do I mean by 1-click? The upsell and downsell are offered immediately after the customer purchases the single eBook. Therefore, I have already collected their credit card information and the additional order can be added to their cart in only 1 click (so I don’t need to ask them for their credit card information again).
The exact steps of my funnels are:
- Sales page
- Order form
- Order confirmation
- Delivery of eBooks
Here is a screenshot of my upsell:
And my downsell:
My eBooks are offered at $9 individually. But one in three of my customers are choosing to add the 7-eBook bundle for an extra $25. And a small minority of people who reject the upsell do choose the downsell for $8.
In short: Instead of only being able to generate $9 per transaction from each customer for a single eBook, one in three sales has become a $34 transaction. This is how ClickFunnels has helped me.
Summing up my switch to ClickFunnels
ClickFunnels has been superior to Shopify for me in every respect. My two main issues with Shopify were:
- My sales pages were bland and unappealing. Shopify does have third party apps that enable you to create a more visually enriching sales pages, but I found them buggy and difficult to use, and not actually that attractive.
- You can’t create funnels offering upsells or downsells of digital products. To increase my order value on Shopify, my only option was to install a third party app that created a product bundle that you could insert into a sales page. This did lift my average order value after I installed it but not nearly to the extent of creating a funnel with ClickFunnels.
As happy as I am with ClickFunnels, I’ve only scratched the surface of what we can be done with the platform. There are countless examples of people using ClickFunnels who make 7 figures.
My results are much more modest in comparison to them.
But ClickFunnels has boosted a secondary revenue stream of a niche product of mine by 110%. It hasn’t made me a millionaire but I’m very happy with how the switch to ClickFunnels from Shopify has turned out.
You may be wondering whether my experience with eBooks is relevant to your own product or service.
For me, the great thing about Clickfunnels is that it’s designed to sell anything. I sell eBooks. Trey Lewellen sells physical products. Ryan Magdziarz trains coaches. The thing we have in common is that ClickFunnels makes it easy for us to convert visitors into enthusiastic buyers.
I can’t think of a business that couldn’t benefit from that.
Sign up to the 14-day free trial of ClickFunnels and you can see for yourself how it can help your business.
The best features of ClickFunnels
With ClickFunnels’ library of template blueprints, you never need to worry that your landing pages and funnels aren’t optimized.
The average website visitor is only going to spend 15 seconds or less on your website if you aren’t able to grab their attention.
15 seconds isn’t long enough to capture a lead or make a sale.
But when your landing pages have been developed by some of the best minds in marketing, you won’t need to worry about that. Instead of your visitors bouncing after 15 seconds, they’ll be reading what’s on the page and become more likely to turn into a customer.
Even if you use ClickFunnels’ templates, you can edit them as much as you want.
For example, I made sure that the color scheme of my eBook sales pages reflects the colors of my logo. Even though my sales pages and funnels ultimately live on ClickFunnels, they now look like an extension of my website.
Chances are ClickFunnels will have a template that suits your business. And if they don’t then…
Easily create your own landing pages (no coding required)
While ClickFunnels’ library of landing page templates is incredibly helpful, you can also design your own landing pages in a snap—without writing a single line of code.
ClickFunnels has a large selection of page elements (or widgets) for you to use when creating your pages, including:
- Headlines and subheadlines
- Paragraph text
- Opt-in boxes
- Forms for billing and shipping
- Countdown timers
- Social shares
- Pricing tables
- And more.
These elements are all drag-and-drop, so you simply drag it into your page, and you’re good to go. You won’t need to write a single letter of code.
Elements (or widgets) are essential for giving you the flexibility to design the exact pages you want. ClickFunnels provides all the important ones you’ll need for your page.
Grow your email list
I don’t actually use this part of the ClickFunnels platform.
That’s because eBooks are only a niche product on my website. I prefer to collect emails addresses away from ClickFunnels.
But the email functionality of ClickFunnels is very extensive for those who need it.
And growing an engaged email list is going to help you sell more. In fact, for every $1 invested in email marketing, the average return is $44.
ClickFunnels integrates with a range of email marketing providers so that you can grow your email list while simultaneously promoting your products and making sales.
Valuable resource library
As a busy business owner, you probably don’t have time to be spending hours and hours trying to learn new software. I certainly don’t.
That’s why the free resources ClickFunnels provides are so valuable.
All of ClickFunnels tutorials, both video and step-by-step instructions, will walk you through everything you need to know to set up, use and start making sales from your ClickFunnels account. These don’t require hours of consumption and note taking—they get right to the point.
But the training doesn’t just stop there.
ClickFunnels’ Funnel Flix resource library is packed with courses to help you learn about (but not limited to):
- Affiliate marketing
- E-commerce/brick and mortar
- Online advertising
- Product development
Remember you have full access to all of these resources during your 14-day free trial period. It’s actually worth signing up just for this.
Many comprehensive marketing tools require intense set-up and knowledge on API hooks and custom code.
With ClickFunnels, you’ll be able to have your account set-up and running the same day you start your trial.
Now, I wouldn’t call ClickFunnels a mind-blowingly simple platform to use. It has a lot of functionality and you have to learn how to effectively use it all. However, it is intuitive and has been designed for non-tech heads like me.
Between their easy set-up, support and video tutorials, you won’t need to worry about being overwhelmed with complicated tech stuff.
Other helpful features of ClickFunnels
We’ve covered a lot up to now, so let’s talk about some of the other features of ClickFunnels that you need to know about.
Easily integrate payment processors
Getting your account ready to collect payment is incredibly straightforward. If you signed up for your free account and followed the set-up instructions I have here, you’ll be all ready to go.
ClickFunnels integrates with the following payment processors:
- Apple/Android Pay
- NMI (Gateway Funnel Pros)
- JV Zoo
- Warrior Plus.
In-depth customer reporting
Actionetics is a marketing automation tool within ClickFunnels to take your funnels to a whole new level.
Actionetics connects seamlessly with Follow-Up Funnels to take the place of your email marketing platform.
Here’s how it works.
Actionetics analyzes how your leads interact with your funnels and will sort them into different segments.
Segmentation is powerful with marketing, and with email marketing, in particular, clickthrough rates are 100.95% higher on segmented emails.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Actionetics creates highly in-depth profiles for each of your leads so that you can create highly-targeted offers to increase your sales.
Create an affiliate program
Affiliate programs are an excellent way to scale your business without increasing your workload.
Creating an affiliate program on your own can be challenging. You will need to find a way to create custom links for affiliates, track those links based on cookies and pay the members of your affiliate program.
With the Backpack tool in ClickFunnels, you can easily create your own affiliate program so that your customers can start promoting your products for you.
Backpack is included in ClickFunnels’ Platinum plan only.
Easily analyze your funnels
You can use ClickFunnels’ analytics to analyze and optimize your funnels.
Analytics are located on the homepage of your dashboard when you log in. You can view analytics based on all your funnels (if you have more than one) or drill down to individual funnels.
Should you get ClickFunnels Platinum?
ClickFunnels Platinum is right for you if you need to build complex funnels, require a high number of funnels, or want to run an affiliate program.
The basic ClickFunnels plan currently allows 100 subpages (pages within a funnel) and 20 funnels. If you see your business scaling beyond that, the Platinum plan is the right choice.
You also might want to consider the Platinum plan if assigning a lifetime value to your customers is important for your business. ClickFunnels’ Platinum plan takes tracking and analyzing your customers to a new level.
ClickFunnels Platinum is also handy if you want to give multiple people access to your ClickFunnels account, each with specific account limitations.
Let’s say you’ve hired an external analyst to dive deep into your funnels to help you determine how to increase them and grow.
You might not feel comfortable giving this person full access to your account. With Platinum, you can limit the dashboard for each specific user to your liking.
Lastly, if you plan on running an affiliate program with your products, you will need ClickFunnels Platinum.
To summarize, ClickFunnels Platinum is right for you if you:
- Need multiple, complex funnels
- Want to assign an accurate and detailed LTV and customer profile to each lead
- Want to give limited access to multiple people
- Are planning to start an affiliate program.
Is ClickFunnels beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. Although there is a learning curve with ClickFunnels, you won’t need to know any coding or fancy tech stuff. And if you ever get stuck with anything, their support team is happy to help you out. I’ve contacted them several times and I got help almost immediately.
Do I need to know how to code to use ClickFunnels?
As mentioned above, you do not need to know any coding to have success with ClickFunnels.
Do I need something to sell before trying out ClickFunnels?
No! ClickFunnels has fantastic courses that you’ll get access to with your free trial. One of the courses will walk you through the exact steps to take to develop a product that you can sell. The course is to be completed over two days, so you’ll have lots of time to test out your funnels.
You can also use ClickFunnels to collect leads while you wait to develop a product.
Are there cheaper options?
There are other available options that are similar (but not exactly the same) to ClickFunnels. You can read about some of the other options below.
Do I need a website with ClickFunnels?
No. If you aren’t finding your website valuable, ClickFunnels can replace it and be used as sales pages, landing pages and lead collection pages.
I need more than the Platinum plan has to offer, what can I do?
If you need more than what is currently offered, they suggest contacting their billing team for Enterprise pricing options.
Do I need an email marketing platform?
It’s not necessary. You can grow your email list with Follow-Up Funnels which is available on ClickFunnels’ Platinum Plan. If you are on ClickFunnels’ regular plan, you will need an email marketing platform for lead collection.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. ClickFunnels runs on a monthly membership that you can cancel at any time. There are no minimum contracts.
Are there any catches to the free 14-day free trial?
Not that I can see. The free 14-day trial period worked great for me. You get all the functionality they offer, including the ability to accept payments. The only thing to note is that you do need to give your credit card details. So, if you’re not happy with ClickFunnels, don’t forget to cancel by the end of the 14 days or you will be billed at the end for the first month.
Alternatives to ClickFunnels
There are four main alternatives to ClickFunnels that you might be considering.
- Essential Plan: $29.90 USD/month
- Premium Plan: $69.90 USD/month
- Free Trial: 7 Days
Builderall is a cheaper alternative to ClickFunnels that allows you to create landing pages and funnels.
Builderall’s funnel library only has 20 different funnel templates to choose from, so you are a bit limited when it comes to building out your landing pages.
There have been complaints online that Builderall can be glitchy at times, which could be because it is a smaller company and is still working to smooth things out.
- Standard: $25.00 USD/month (annually)
- Pro: $48.00 USD/month (annually)
- Advanced: $199.00 USD/month (annually)
- Free Trial: 14 Days
Leadpages is a program that is highly specific to landing pages and lead collection.
Whereas ClickFunnels is an all-in-one funnel builder (which includes landing pages), Leadpages focuses more on the actual landing pages.
Leadpages has a library of high-converting templates for their users, and if your only goal is lead collection (e.g. capture an email address), Leadpages could be a good option for you.
Unlike ClickFunnels, Leadpages doesn’t limit the number of landing pages you create. You are able to collect unlimited leads and create unlimited pages with Leadpages. You can also integrate popups and alert bars.
However, if you want to manage your funnels from start to finish (including making sales and promoting your products), ClickFunnels is the better option.
- Thrive Membership: $19.00 USD/month (paid annually)
- Agency Membership: $40.00 USD/month (paid annually)
- Free Trial: None
Thrive Themes is for WordPress users only. If you don’t have a website on WordPress, you will not be able to use Thrive Themes’ product.
Thrive Themes is a collection of plugins and WordPress themes meant to increase conversions. Thrive Themes does not focus on sales funnels and if you are looking to create a funnel, you will need to know how to set one up by yourself as it is not an all-in-one software.
If you already have a WordPress website, adding different plugins to it can cause tech issues. With Thrive Themes, you will need to have a strong technical knowledge of WordPress.
Unlike ClickFunnels, Thrive Themes is not recommended for a total beginner due to its complexity and learning curve.

Ontraport is similar to ClickFunnels. They have pre-made landing pages meant to collect leads and sell your products, but ultimately, Ontraport leans more towards a customer relationship management (CRM) software rather than a sales funnel software.
Ontraport is for data-focused businesses that want to manage and track their leads at a micro-level.
While it is undoubtedly robust if your goal is intensive CRM, Aktionetics within ClickFunnels can also provide you with lots of powerful data.
What I like most about ClickFunnels
Funnel building is simple
As I’ve already mentioned, it’s easy to put together a funnel from start to finish using ClickFunnels.
As a tech noob, I was apprehensive about using ClickFunnels when I first signed up. But I was able to design and set up my first sales funnel without a lot of stress.
In fact, it was so intuitive that I got it right the first time and I still use the same funnel I designed on my first day. I have looked into alternatives but none seem to be better than what I initially set up.
Good web design is essential.
Ugly webpages lose visitors and sales.
In fact, people will question a business’s credibility if their website isn’t aesthetic. That means you can have the best product in the world, but if your landing page design is subpar, you’re going to lose your visitors.
But your pages shouldn’t focus purely on design. You must also take into consideration user-experience.
Balancing user experience with a killer design is a delicate balancing act, which brings me back to ClickFunnels’ pre-made templates.
Each template has been created with user experience, usability and design in mind.
You don’t need to worry about losing out on sales due to clunky sales pages (this was one of my big gripes with Shopify).
Another point worth mentioning is that all of ClickFunnels’ pages are optimized for mobile devices and smaller screens.
It’s safe to say that half of your web traffic will come from mobile. If your landing pages aren’t built for all different types of screen sizes, you’ll lose leads and sales.
Thankfully, that’s not a problem with ClickFunnels.
Easy to A/B test
Have you ever wondered whether a specific color of button will perform better, or whether or not a particular headline will generate more sales?
ClickFunnels makes it incredibly simple to split test two different pages and see which one performs better by creating a variation of your page.
In this case study, one entrepreneur was able to double his conversion rate by testing which landing page performed better.
A/B testing is a straightforward way to see what works and what doesn’t.
ClickFunnels will grow with your business
As your business grows, so will your needs. You may start by selling a single ebook (like I did), but then decide to sell multiple eBooks, courses, trainings, private memberships, and even start your own affiliate program.
All of this is possible within ClickFunnels.
You won’t need to buy any additional software or learn any new tools.
And here’s the clincher.
My goal in writing eBooks was to sell copies of them. Your goal is probably to sell more of whatever you are selling.
So, can ClickFunnels help us generate sales?
After using it for 6 months, I know it does.
I was able to increase my eBook sales by 110% by switching to ClickFunnels. I didn’t have to waste my energy on design, page building or coding, and instead could focus on writing better content on my sales pages and driving traffic to them.
There are also a lot of users who have been even more successful than me. Check out these business owners, experts and coaches who are making 7 figures with ClickFunnels.
The key takeaway is that ClickFunnels is working for a lot of people.
What I like least about ClickFunnels
This ClickFunnels review wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t touch on some of the areas I believe ClickFunnels can improve.
The analytics within the ClickFunnels’ dashboard is pretty decent but with a few drawbacks.
On your dashboard homepage, you are able to view analytics for:
- Gross revenue
- Successful purchases
While these analytics provide you with the basics, they don’t offer much more in-depth information.
Luckily, it’s easy to add your Google Analytics code to your funnel pages to access more in-depth data. It would be nice if this data was all displayed within ClickFunnels, but I don’t mind having to check my Google Analytics.
On top of connecting your Google Analytics, you can also add retargeting pixels to your landing pages.
The dashboard is also the aggregate data of all your funnels. To know which funnels are working best and converting the most, you have to access the Stats tab within each funnel. This tab does provide comprehensive data of page views, opt ins and sales.
It would be more convenient if the central dashboard broke down your data at a funnel level. I have 8 funnels so examining the stats of each funnel individually is a bit annoying. If you have 20+ funnels, it would be even more annoying.
No enhanced eCommerce tracking
Something that ClickFunnels and Google Analytics can’t do is enhanced eCommerce tracking. Practically speaking, this means I can’t figure out which blog posts on Hack Spirit are sending converting traffic to my eBook sales page.
I’m therefore ‘shooting in the dark’ when I pitch my eBook within my blog posts.
Apparently there is a work around hack for this, but that’s too daunting for me to attempt.
Time-consuming to build funnels
Even though ClickFunnels dramatically decreases the time it would take to build your funnels from scratch, it is still takes some time.
My suggestion: plan and map your funnels out in advance, so when it comes time to build them, you know exactly where everything is going to go.
You’ll be more prepared and complete your funnels faster.
Even now that I am an experienced ClickFunnels user, it still takes me a while to complete a new funnel.
This is a relatively petty complaint I know.
No discount code on order forms
This complaint is less petty.
When used properly, discount codes can boost sales and entice customers to purchase your product.
Unfortunately, ClickFunnels doesn’t have the functionality to add discount codes into their order forms. They have a few other things you can do in the event of a sale, but nothing as simple as a discount code.
It’s a feature I hope gets added in the future.
Delivery of digital files
I can’t deliver eBooks to my customers via email.
Although an order fulfillment email is sent to customers immediately after they buy something, there isn’t the functionality to attach my eBooks to that email. Instead, the email contains a link to where they can download their eBooks.
This isn’t a big deal and I’ve never had a customer complain that they can’t access their book. Still, given the option, I’d would attach the files to the fulfillment email as well.
My verdict: Is ClickFunnels worth it?
There is a lot of hype around ClickFunnels and its mega popular creator, Russell Brunson.
However, after using ClickFunnels for 6 months and increasing my eBooks sales by 110%, I believe that ClickFunnels lives up it.
ClickFunnels has worked extremely well for me and I’m just a blogger who sells eBooks as one of my side hustles.
The key reasons why I think ClickFunnels is worth it for you is:
- Anyone can benefit from a sales funnel (even if you don’t realize it yet) and ClickFunnels makes the funnel building process simple.
- You can create very attractive landing pages that are easy to customize.
- ClickFunnels is easy to use, even for beginners.
- ClickFunnels simply works. While researching bits and pieces for this article I’ve come across many inspiring success stories of people using ClickFunnels to become extremely successful.
Signing up to ClickFunnels isn’t going to magically make you sales.
You still need to drive visitors to your pages and offer them something of value. But if you have a plan for that, I can’t think of a better platform than ClickFunnels to turn these visitors into customers (and higher-paying customers too).
That’s enough from me. The only way to truly know whether ClickFunnels will help you is actually to test it out (for free).
