Have you ever missed someone you have never met in real life?
You seem to yearn for someone’s presence, and you can’t stop thinking about this person. This is possible, and it’s not at all weird.
Like you, I felt this way at one point in my life. I’ve also been perplexed by the idea that we could experience an emotion for someone that we never even had in the first place.
So let me share with you the reasons so you can discover answers that heal and enlighten you.
Missing someone you’ve never met? 17 reasons why
Missing a person is related to having a certain kind of connection with that person.
This meeting of minds, hearts, and souls makes two people intricately connected even though they have never known their presence.
When that connection gets broken, it will bring empty feelings – and will leave you with a feeling that something is unresolved.
Here are the reasons why.
1) Missing someone is an emotion
It doesn’t come with any strings attached.
You perceive this person as amazing and brilliant, but the tricky part is that you’ve never met them in person yet.
You miss something or someone when they make you feel good. Even without a presence, there’s a deep bonding and connection with them.
You feel drawn towards that person because their energy resonates with ours at a certain frequency, and your soul wants to know about them more.
It’s because our emotions can be complicated and hard to understand.
2) Strong connection with the person
This connection can be close or distant. And it’s possible to form a strong emotional or spiritual connection with a person you’ve never met in real life yet.
Probably, you’ve only seen this person in photos or on social media videos. Or maybe, you know things about this person but have never seen him or her personally.
For instance, it could be a deceased relative you’ve only heard about through stories.
If this is the case, we long for their presence in our lives because of the wonderful things we know and hear about them.
You haven’t got the chance to meet. You’re left with an image of what they could have been like in your life.
3) You share something in common
When two people have similar interests, it creates a special bond and connection.
Probably, you both love animals, enjoy playing online games, or love science fiction books.
It could also be that you have the same principles and beliefs in life, or looking in the same direction.
Having things in common with someone makes you see the other person as a reflection of yourself. The similarity you share creates a feeling like you know each other already.
This feels like it was your destiny to meet each other.
And this makes you miss someone you have never met in real life yet.
4) You love the person
Can we fall for someone without meeting them yet?
It’s not impossible!
Probably, this person makes you feel important, loved, and cared for. Or maybe, there’s still so much for.
So if it’s love, the reason why you’re missing the other person when they left your life is already obvious.
This makes you wonder, “why is love so hard?”
Or why can’t love just be how I imagined it to be?
It’s easy to become frustrated and even feel helpless when you’re dealing with missing someone you have not met in person.
This may tempt you to throw in the towel and give up on love.
But before you do this, I want to suggest doing something different.
I learned this from world-renowned shaman Rudá Iandê. Through him, I realized that the way to find love and intimacy is not what we have been culturally conditioned to believe. I got to see through the lies we tell ourselves about love.
As Rudá explains in this mind-blowing free video, many of us self-sabotage and trick ourselves for years, getting in the way of meeting a partner who can truly fulfill us.
We chase love in a toxic way that ends up stabbing us in the back.
We get stuck in awful relationships or empty encounters that we never find what we’re looking for. And this makes us feel more horrible about things like missing a person we have not met yet.
We find someone who “completes” us, only to realize that we fall apart – and we feel twice as bad.
We even try to “fix” our partners, but only end up destroying relationships.
Instead of the real person, we fall in love with the ideal version of someone.
I’m thankful that Rudá’s teachings gave me a whole new perspective.
While watching the video, I felt like someone understood my struggles to find and nurture this love for the first time – and finally offered an actual, practical solution as to the reasons why I miss this person.
So if you’re done with frustrating relationships, unsatisfying dating, empty hookups – and having your hopes dashed over and over, then this is a message you need to hear.
It’s best to start with yourself first and take Rudá’s incredible advice.

5) You experience physical attraction
If you’ve been seeing photos of this person online or on billboards, there’s a chance that you’ve developed a physical attraction toward them.
You find the features and characteristics of this person aesthetically pleasing. You might also be developing feelings for this person already.
You’re probably experiencing some of these attraction signs:
- Constantly thinking about this person
- Finding yourself smiling all the time
- Seeing them (even online) makes your heart flutter
- Mirroring the other person’s actions and behaviors
And this infatuation explains how you can miss someone you have never met.
6) Your imagination is running wild
You tend to wonder what it would be like if you met this person face to face. You’re imagining and creating scenarios in your mind.
Maybe being with this person and spending time together frequently crossed your mind. You could be daydreaming about going on dates or even marrying this person.
When you’re attracted to or interacting with a person virtually, you’re visualizing them in your mind. You’re creating images of life with them in your mind.
You could be thinking of something like – how they smell or how your conversations will go.
This makes you feel super excited after imagining and visualizing different scenarios.
If you didn’t get to see the person for a day or a week, this can make you miss someone even if you haven’t met yet.
7) The person reminds you of someone else
When you miss a person you never met, you likely associate this person with someone else.
It could be an old friend, a former flame, a relative, or someone you lost.
Their looks, the way they dress, how they laugh, or the way they talk seems familiar to you. Because of that, you sort of become attached to this person.
Either you yearn for this person or long to be with someone you know.
The thing is, our feelings are often illogical, and we feel drawn to someone for mysterious reasons. And sometimes, we miss someone whose absence is felt even though we have never known their presence.
So if there’s this empty feeling, we will miss them.
8) One of you manifested the other
This could be another answer to your question, “how can I miss the person I’ve never met.”
You trust that the Universe can turn what you are manifesting into reality. You have visualized and feel that it’s already yours.
Even if you’re not unaware of it, you could be manifesting the person in your life. Maybe you seek some form of comfort – and the Universe heard you.
Manifestation worked for you as the Universe sent this person into your life.
It’s because when a person manifests someone, the Universe worlds attract you towards each other.
And that’s another reason why you miss someone you’ve never met.
9) This person could be a member of your soul family
Have you ever heard of “soul family” before?
Briefly, this soul family can be anyone in our life. These people resonate energetically with our souls on a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
They play an essential role in your overall growth in every aspect. They love, nurture, support, protect and help you in your journey.
Spiritually, these people are identical to our birth family here on earth.
As you and this person are part of the same “spirit family,” you share an intensely strong bond that transcends time and space itself. Thus, physical distance doesn’t matter when it comes to connecting and interacting with your soul family.
When you acknowledge and get attached to them, you’ll feel remarkable that you’d like to hold on for the rest of your life.
Because the connection you feel with this person is so intense, that’s one reason why you miss someone you have not met in person.
And when you feel that person has a strong connection to your soul, then you could be each other’s soulmate.
Confirm that this person is your soulmate
Let’s face it,
Finding your soulmate isn’t easy.
We tend to waste our time and energy with people who ultimately we’re not compatible with.
But there’s a way to know for certain whether you’ve met your soulmate.
I’ve come across a way to know how this works… a professional psychic artist who can sketch what your soulmate looks like.
While I was hesitant about this, my friend convinced me to try it out.
Now, I recognize and know exactly what my soulmate looks like. And the crazy thing is that I’ve known them for years!
So if you’re ready to know what your soulmate looks like, get your sketch drawn here.
10) You remember a loved one
Did you lose a family member or a loved one? Or maybe they moved miles away already?
If yes, did this person reminds you of that loss?
Even if your loved one left years ago, there’s a scar that seems to remain. And when someone or something touches that scar, they remember the memories you had with your loved ones.
Sometimes, it gives you a sense of longing and pain.
But this time, what you feel is different as somehow, you seem to feel your loved one’s presence.
As memories get buried and resurfaced, you start to miss people from your past and the person you’ve never met.
11) You’re drawn by their mysterious personality
This person is an enigma – a mystery that you want to unlock. You’re attracted by their secretive nature, as they aren’t often around.
Probably, you find this person’s mysterious personality attractive.
It could be that their uniqueness, uncertainty, and sense of mystery suck you in. Or probably it’s what they do or say, or rather don’t say.
You miss someone you have not met as this person has an unusual charm that makes him more appealing.
This is because when there’s something that we don’t know much about, we become curious and want to learn more about them.
Most of the time, being mysterious makes a person different from the rest.
And that’s the very reason why you miss this person whom you haven’t met yet.
12) Boredom hits you
Do you find yourself having thoughts of this person you’ve seen online when you’re idle and staring blankly at a wall?
If that’s the case, your boredom is one reason you’re missing them.
Yes, it’s weird, but that’s right. You’re bored – and that’s all there is to it. It’s because there’s nobody to keep you company or you don’t want to do anything else.
In today’s digital world, it’s a challenge to sit idle for hours. We’re living busy lifestyles and there’s so much we can do with the hours that we have.
So when you get hit by a moment when you’ve got nothing left to do, you miss someone even when you’ve never met them.
Because sometimes, this idle time gives us a lot of time to think about the ones we miss.
13) You enjoy the companionship
Think about how you and this person are spending time.
Do you frequently watch online shows, have long conversations, or do most online activities together?
Once you spend so much time with someone every day, you get addicted. They become part of your routine.
So when the person isn’t around, something feels incomplete. You miss the interaction and the communication between you too.
With this person, everything feels in place, and you feel at home. You seem to click together and fit like a puzzle.
This gives you a sense of security – and finally, you feel appreciated.
As a result, you miss this person even when you’ve never met him.
14) You easily get attached to others
Does this person make you feel complete, happy, fulfilled, etc?
The moment you see something from this person, you get attached to them quickly. It could be because this person happens to be like the one who will give you what you long for.
You’re missing the person you have not met mainly because you fear that once you lose this person you will never meet someone that understands you as they did.
You could be giving this person power over your mental state and happiness.
Probably, you’re attaching yourself to this person for these reasons:
- You’re attracted to a person’s mind or spiritual being
- You seek their affection and love that may not have been fulfilled before
- You want interpersonal relationships to alleviate your feelings of loneliness
- You have low self-esteem that any positive a person does makes you attached to them
- You haven’t felt so accepted and understood in a long time by anyone
- You get distracted by the person’s shiny qualities
15) You made this person part of your life
This happened unknowingly. When you spend time with someone, you develop a deep sense of emotional (and even spiritual) connection.
You start talking and sharing your life with this person regularly. And they began to take space in our life.
Connecting with this person even if it’s online makes you happy, comfortable, and at peace.
You see this person as an essential part of your life that your day isn’t complete without hearing from them once.
You feel as if they will always be with you. But when they vanish for no reason, everything turns out to be as painful as hell.
And this situation makes you miss someone you’ve never met.
16) You desire what you can’t have
We have this natural tendency to desire that one person we just cannot have.
Maybe this person doesn’t reciprocate our feelings, is taken, or is too hard to get. But this makes us want the person even more that we can’t seem to stop thinking about them.
Too often, if there’s someone we want, it occupies our mind as we fantasize about it.
We may get too obsessed with someone who doesn’t want us. And this can sometimes be as painful as someone breaking up with us.
Some reasons why we want those we cannot have include:
- Desiring those desired by others
- Excited by the thrill of the chase
- Attracted to the unpredictability or uniqueness of the other person
- Fulfilling a fantasy and satisfying our ego
- Wanting to prove that we deserve to have them
So when this person is out of reach, we want them so much more. And that’s the reason why we miss this person we have not met.
17) You’re holding on to the person
More than having online conversations with the other person, you feel a deep emotional attachment with them.
You got to learn about each other’s lives and share your deepest thoughts
You never realized that you have formed a powerful emotional bond with the other person already.
When you hit a storm, knowing that this person exists to support you eases your journey.
You could be stuck in a massive problem right and want this person to be with you – but they aren’t around.
So this could be why you’re missing them even when you’ve never met them!
What’s next?
The thing is, it’s possible to miss them even though they have never known their presence.
So when you experience that constant longing for home and hopes, try not to feel weird. You might even feel that gnawing sadness and at the same time a yearning for recaptured love and happiness.
And when there’s a void that you’re quite sure of, or yearn for something that may never materialize, that’s because you are missing the person.
The most important thing to do is to pay attention if this feeling remains over time or fades away.
But the beautiful thing is, this could be the highlight of your existence. It’s something that gives you a sense of calm, love, and trust, amidst the confusion.
This is because the connection you share between your souls is real.
