Arguing with someone who has zero empathy can be draining. They use certain phrases that clearly demonstrate their lack of concern for your perspective.

Here are some phrases to listen out for during an argument that may indicate the person you’re dealing with has zero empathy for others.

1) “I don’t care”

We all know that an argument can get heated, and emotions can run high.

However, there’s a line between being passionate about your point and disregarding the feelings of the person you’re arguing with.

One of the biggest indicators of a lack of empathy is when someone flat out tells you they don’t care about your feelings or perspective.

“I don’t care what you think” or “I don’t care how you feel” are phrases that show a complete disregard for your emotional state and point of view.

It’s as if they’re saying that only their side of the argument matters.

This phrase shifts the responsibility entirely onto you, indicating that they don’t feel any obligation to help or even understand your perspective.

By saying “That’s your problem”, they’re essentially washing their hands of the situation, not showing any concern or consideration for how you might be feeling.

It dismisses your feelings as irrelevant to them and puts the entire burden of the issue on your shoulders.

5) “Get over it”

I remember a time when I was dealing with a significant personal loss and a colleague at work brushed off my feelings saying, “You’re overreacting.”

It minimizes your feelings and makes you question the validity of your emotions.

My colleague’s dismissal of my grief as an overreaction made me feel unheard, isolated, and made the pain of my loss even more intense.
