Being ignored is annoying and tiring.
What are you supposed to do in return?
Here’s a foolproof way to make the person ignoring you feel like a complete idiot and starts changing their mind about you.
20 ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose
1) Why are they ignoring you?
Do you know why this person is ignoring you on purpose? Often the answer is simply no.
But if you do, it can help you know how to respond.
Did you hurt them or do something wrong? Did they just go through a significant setback or tragedy?
This is all very important to consider.
You can’t force someone to reinitiate contact with you. And you shouldn’t push down your feelings of sadness or frustration about it either.
But being clear on why you think it happened can help you move on to the other suggestions in this article.
2) Find new people to be around
If someone is ignoring you on purpose, it leaves a gap.
This is especially true if it is somebody you love a lot or who is very close to you.
That’s why one of the most effective ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to find new people to be around.
Now it’s not like you can go to Trader Joe’s and just pick up a new pack of friends.
Making friends and close connections or finding a new person to date isn’t easy!
It can really be a hit-and-miss process, with plenty of disappointment and dead-ends.
But the good news is that getting out there, socializing and being more open to meeting new people is worth it in its own right as you expand your horizons and become more confident in your own skin.
3) Find your purpose
When someone is ignoring you, it’s tempting to chase their approval or try to be spiteful toward them.
The best approach, however, is to find your own purpose.
This is the perfect antidote to being ignored: it’s the equivalent of shrugging your shoulders and then going on to win a marathon.
Because finding your purpose is actually key to your success and fulfillment in life.
So…
What would you say if I asked you what your purpose is?
It’s a hard question!
And there are far too many people trying to tell you it will just “come to you” and to focus on “raising your vibrations” or finding some vague kind of inner peace.
Self-help gurus are out there preying on people’s insecurities to make money and selling them on techniques which really don’t work for achieving your dreams.
Visualization.
Meditation.
Sage burning ceremonies with some vaguely indigenous chanting music in the background.
Hit pause.
The truth is that visualization and positive vibes won’t bring you closer to your dreams, and they can actually drag you backwards into wasting your life on a fantasy.
But it’s hard to move on from being ignored and find your purpose, when you’re being hit with so many different claims.
You can end up trying so hard and not finding the answers you need that your life and dreams begin to feel hopeless.
You want solutions, but all you’re being told is to create a perfect utopia inside your own mind. It doesn’t work.
So let’s go back to basics:
Before you can experience a real change, you need to really know your purpose.
I learned about the power of finding your purpose from watching Ideapod co-founder Justin Brown’s video on the hidden trap of improving yourself.
Justin used to be addicted to the self-help industry and New Age gurus just like me. They sold him on ineffective visualization and positive thinking techniques.
Four years ago, he traveled to Brazil to meet the renowned shaman Rudá Iandê, for a different perspective.
Rudá taught him a life-changing new way to find your purpose and use it to transform your life.
After watching the video, I also discovered and understood my purpose in life and it’s no exaggeration to say it was a turning point in my life.
I can honestly say that this new way of finding success by finding your purpose actually helped me to deal with feeling invisible in society and ignored by people I really cared about.
4) Keep calm and carry on
Depending on who is ignoring you and why, it’s easy to become angry, depressed or extremely reactive.
Instead, make a conscious effort to do the opposite.
Keep calm and carry on.
If you work with this person, don’t grimace at them or do a thousand-yard stare when you walk past.
Act normal and simply don’t speak to them.
If it’s an ex, stop checking your messages or social media 24/7 and just truly try to focus on something else.
Know this:
By keeping your cool and continuing on with your life, you are in the very small percentage of people who are strong enough to do this.
Not only is this very attractive, it also speaks very highly to your ability to form new and fulfilling connections with others who will treat you with much more respect.
5) Ghost them hard
One of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to ghost them.
Here’s what I mean:
If a girl or guy you like isn’t answering your texts, just ghost them completely for a longer period of time.
If a work colleague who used to be a close friend is now ignoring you on purpose, ignore them even harder.
Just ghost them and move on.
Make them notice the uncomfortable silence in person or in the digital sphere.
Show them that not only did you “get the message,” you also doubled down on it and got on with your life.
They’ll hear you loud and clear.
6) Leave them on read
One of the trickiest ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to ghost them with a twist.
If they decide to pop out of their ignoring ways and send you a message or signal of interest in reestablishing interest, you immediately ignore your instinct to be grateful, overjoyed and responsive…
And you do the opposite.
You don’t block them or show any outward sign of anger. That would be giving this person too much satisfaction.
Instead of just ignoring what they say to you over text or messaging, make sure to read what they send and then ignore it anyway.
This is basically a way to ignore them but make them know for a fact that you’re ignoring them and start to wonder why.
It may seem a little juvenile or spiteful in a way I warned against earlier, but sometimes the frustration and anger builds up too much and you need at least a few times of doing this to start to feel the shift in the balance of power.
Why the hell should someone ignoring you be the final word on a subject, when you can ignore them even harder?
7) Focus on new projects
In addition to trying your best to meet new people and move on in the various possible ways, you should do your best to focus on new projects.
This could be at work projects, personal projects, hobbies or even a special trip you have planned.
A project can really encompass anything that requires some planning, dedication and time.
This will help you truly get away from the focus on the way you are being ignored by this person and thinking about how much it bothers you.
I’m not saying it won’t bother you just because you’re canoeing on a three-day trip or pitching a new brand strategy at work that you developed over two months.
But those things will certainly take up a lot of your energy and time that otherwise could have been wasted on worrying about the person who is ignoring you.
8) Empower yourself
One of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to stop focusing on them and refocus instead on empowering yourself.
Forget about what they do or do not think about you.
Forget about their motivation for ignoring you.
Forget about trying to ignore them (and just ignore them).
Instead, tap into that desire you have inside yourself to contribute to become a powerful person, a winner and a fulfilled individual.
You’ll probably notice right away that feelings of this being difficult or silly come up. After all, what makes you so special or worthy of being a winner?
As I suggested, claiming your personal power is all about finding your purpose.
Identify what’s going wrong and frustrating you most, and then find a way to tackle that in your own life and the lives of others.
Empowering yourself means using all the tools at your disposal to make a difference, which will lead to you automatically ignoring those who think they are better than you or are trying to play games with you.
9) Physically distance yourself
Sometimes in order to truly ignore someone who’s giving you the cold shoulder, you must put physical distance between you and them.
For example, if you have had a conflict of some kind with somebody at work and they are now actively ignoring you and making every day painful and awkward, you may request to be transferred.
Or if you have had a strong clash or disagreement with a family member or relative who you feel is disrespecting you and now ignoring you, then you may avoid family gatherings where that person is.
At least for the time being, it’s sometimes necessary that you put distance between you and this person who’s rubbing you the wrong way.
Let’s face it:
It’s a lot easier to ignore someone when you’re not in the same city or state as them.
10) Boost your body language
If you’re a man who’s struggling with someone who won’t return your interest, it’s common to overthink it to death.
When a woman is ignoring you and making you feel worthless, you may feel tempted to chase harder, boast more and somehow turn her head…
But actually the best thing you can do is get out of your head.
Forget about “winning” her attraction, and work on getting more into your body and confident inside yourself.
That’s because women are highly tuned into the signals a man’s body is giving off…
They get an “overall impression” of a guy’s attractiveness and think of him as either “hot” or “not” based on these body language signals.
Watch this excellent free video by Kate Spring.
Kate’s a relationship expert who helped me improve my own body language around women.

11) Obliterate your need for external validation
For far too many of us, there’s an inner feeling of being not good enough or inadequate.
In many cases it stems from childhood trauma and feeling neglected.
The desire for approval and validation of those around us is natural and instinctive: we’re tribal animals.
But you need to do everything you can to retrain your mind and emotions away from this search for approval.
Because the truth is that no amount of outer attention will ever make up for that inner feeling of unworthiness.
When it comes to the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose, it’s all about realizing that you don’t need anyone else to tell you you’re good enough.
You already are. Full stop.
12) Make friends with their friends
One of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is making friends with their friends.
This bypasses them directly but gives you a lot of new social opportunities.
It’s also a way for you to showcase that you’re doing just fine in a way that your cold-shouldered friend will almost certainly notice.
Instead of staying home in a sulk or deep depression, you’re out there rubbing shoulders with his or her friends.
And you’re completely ignoring this person if you see them, even when you’re having fun with their friends.
It could be awkward, but it’s pretty brave.
That’s a power move if you ask me.
13) Get in the best shape of your life
One of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to work on getting in the best shape of your life.
Not only is it a good idea to work out for your physical health, it’s also a huge confidence builder.
You feel much stronger and more confident in your body when you exercise and do fitness on a regular basis.
This in turn makes you a force to be reckoned with and somebody who the cold-shouldered person will regret rejecting.
This relates back to what I mentioned earlier – women find certain body signals completely irresistible, and most men don’t know how to use this to their advantage.
I was lucky enough to learn from relationship expert Kate Spring.
In this excellent free video, she shares some valuable techniques to make women naturally fall for you.
Kate’s considered a best-selling author and has helped thousands of men like me and you – if you’re ready to take control of your love life, the best place to start is with her advice.

14) Develop new skills
During the time that you’re feeling terrible about being ignored, you can be working on developing new skills.
This encompasses everything from hobbies to new vocational talents.
It could be something like learning a language online, or taking a course at the community college on basic mechanics.
It might be a basic clothing design course or studying how to bake.
Whatever new skills you’re building, this is one of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose.
15) Help everyone but them at work
If the person who is ignoring you is at your place of work, another one of the best ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to help others at work but not them.
Walk past them like they are invisible, while helping out and lending a hand to any colleague who needs it.
This makes the ignoring that you’re doing to this person all the more keenly felt.
They can see that they are actively losing out by you ignoring of them.
And they’re going to feel that and possibly even have detrimental career effects due to that.
16) Let them stew in their misery
One of the top ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose is to let them stew in their misery.
This means not to blame yourself.
They made the choice to ignore you on purpose, and they can live with it.
Your job is to get on with your own life and not to come running and jumping if they want you back.
Take your time, call your shots and decide what you really want or not.
Remember that you’re not a fast food item on a menu, you’re person with a certain limit of patience and tolerance for mistreatment.
17) Go out on new dates
If you’re being ignored by someone you like, going out on new dates should be your go-to move.
You may not feel like doing this much, and you may have little to no hope in meeting someone new who you truly hit it off with…
But this is among the most effective ways to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose.
You are moving on with your love life and meeting someone new.
You are refusing to be a victim and being a winner instead.
18) Stop overthinking it
One of the worst things you can do when somebody ignores you is to overthink it.
Overanalysis and getting trapped in our own head is a really awful experience.
It leads to months of wasted time and it can really backfire.
We start reacting to life in a stilted and unrealistic way, since half of what’s happening is being filtered through lenses of our own imagination and paranoia.
If someone is ignoring you and you’re honestly not quite sure why, you need to stop overthinking it.
If they are choosing to do this and not explaining why: that’s on them!
It’s beyond your control to force them to explain why.
19) Exercise patience
When you’re being ignored it’s hard not to freak out and react.
But patience is the quality that will see you through.
Don’t focus on the person ignoring you and get on with your life, absolutely.
But that voice in the back of your head and the frustration that’s bringing you down before sleep and every time you have a moment to yourself?
That’s not necessarily going to go away.
So exercise patience with yourself and the situation. There won’t always be a quick resolution or outcome.
20) Spend less time on social media
Social media can be an amazing tool and excellent way to keep up with friends and family. But it can also be a huge drag when you’re dealing with someone who is ignoring you on purpose.
You start lurking on their stories, downloading programs that hide evidence of you seeing their posts or even entering into full stalker territory and creating fake accounts and alts to follow them…
It’s a dangerous path to go down, and it’s the wrong thing to do if you want to ignore someone who ignores you on purpose.
Try to spend less time around your phone and minimize how much time you spend on social media.
Ignoring this person will become much easier. Plus you’ll have more time to do other, more worthwhile things.
