Music, fashion, technology, trends… everything seems to be changing so quickly, it’s difficult to keep up.
But not everyone wants to.
Some people find solace in things that have withstood the test of time. They feel more comfortable with the classical as opposed to the contemporary.
I’m talking about “old souls”.
Some say that old souls are people who’ve been reincarnated many times and know their way around. Others believe that they’re people who had to grow up too fast and didn’t really get a chance to have a childhood.
Whatever the reason for old souls, there’s no denying that they possess wisdom and strength beyond their years.
Let’s take a look at some habits of people with an old soul personality, and who knows? Maybe that sneaking suspicion that you’re an old soul yourself will finally be confirmed!
Let’s get started:
1) Their style and taste are timeless
When it comes to fashion, you’re most likely to find old souls sporting vintage clothing.
They don’t care what’s in style at the moment – because what’s important to them is that they like what they’re wearing and that they can be their authentic selves in it.
And it’s not just fashion either – it’s their taste in everything.
When you go to the home of an old soul, you won’t be walking into another clean and modern Ikea-furnished home. Instead, you’ll find it decorated with carefully selected old pieces that have a special significance to their owner.
Not everything will be from the same period and the word “eclectic” will probably come to mind, but one thing’s certain – old souls are drawn to enduring beauty and quality craftsmanship.
2) They value authenticity
You’ll find that old souls avoid fake people because they can’t stand pretense and superficiality.
They prefer having drinks with their friends at the local bar to going to fancy events with fancy people
In short: The wonderful thing about old soul personalities is that they’re down-to-earth, authentic, and drawn to real people and genuine experiences. That’s 100% me.
3) They long for deep connections
When it comes to friendship, old souls choose quality over quantity.
They don’t care about how many people follow them on Twitter and Instagram or how many “friends” they have on Facebook.
They want friends they can open up to and be themselves with, friends who will be there for them through the good and the bad.
And the same goes for romantic relationships. Old souls are looking for real and meaningful connections and aren’t really into casual dating. They’re looking for the one.
4) They live in the moment and embrace slow living
It seems like people today are constantly in a hurry and have no time for anything. But what are they really hurrying to?
Life is short and we should take advantage of it while we can, and that means taking the time to live in the moment and stopping to smell the roses.
You see, old souls hate chasing deadlines and can’t stand the hustle and bustle of modern life.
They prefer a slower pace of living, savoring each moment and finding joy in the small things.
We should all take a page out of their book and slow down a little, try to be mindful and present, and appreciate the beauty of everyday moments.
5) They have a deep appreciation for the arts
Did you know that art has been around since the cavemen?
It’s true, they actually found a cave painting of a pig in Indonesia that’s at least 450,500 years old!
So basically, art’s been around for almost as long as man and will probably be around long after we’re gone.
And the thing about art is that it transcends time, cultural barriers, and individual experiences.
It’s through art that various ideas and emotions resonate across generations. And it’s art that brings together people from diverse backgrounds who may otherwise not have much in common.
It’s no surprise then that old souls have a deep appreciation for the arts!
6) They need a purpose
You have to understand that the search for meaning and purpose is a very important aspect of an old soul’s journey.
Old souls need to give meaning to their lives and figure out where their place is in this big tapestry called life.
You’ll find them reading philosophy books, meditating, attending seminars and workshops by various gurus, and spending long periods of time just sitting quietly and contemplating life.
And the best part?
What drives them is the desire to make a positive impact, contribute to something meaningful, and leave a lasting legacy.
In their search for meaning and purpose, old souls will explore various avenues such as spiritual practices, humanitarian endeavors, and creative pursuits
7) They seek wise figures
Doesn’t everyone?
Well, no, no they don’t. Some people find so-called “wise figures” intimidating, others, boring.
But old souls recognize the value of learning from those who have walked the path before them.
They seek people who have accumulated vast amounts of knowledge and experiences that could offer some insight into life’s complexities. These wise figures come in various forms, such as mentors, spiritual leaders, or elders who exude wisdom and perspective.
8) They thrive on intellectual stimulation
Now the thing about old souls is that they have a deep thirst for knowledge.
They’re definitely bookish types and were most probably labeled “geeks” and “nerds” back in school.
They love to read, play chess, explore complex ideas, and yup, you guessed it, take part in debates.
They’re naturally curious and love to learn about deep, thought-provoking topics.
Intellectual stimulation gives them an opportunity to expand their horizons, challenge their beliefs, and learn about themselves and the world around them.
9) They need their alone time
I know I do…
It doesn’t make much of a difference whether they’re introverted or extroverted because old souls need their alone time.
You see, they treasure these moments because they’re opportunities for self-reflection, introspection, and recharging their batteries.
Solitude helps them find inner peace amidst the noise and demands of the modern world.
10) They get pretty nostalgic at times
Look, I’ve got news for you – if you keep reminiscing about past moments, people, and places, chances are you’re an old soul yourself.
You see, old soul personalities love the nostalgia of vintage aesthetics, classic literature, music, and really old traditions.
But nostalgia is more than mere sentimental longing; it’s actually a source of inspiration and a way to connect to their roots. Plus, it gives them a chance to think about the passage of time, lessons learned, and cultural heritage that has shaped them.
The bottom line is that nostalgia can offer comfort and a sense of continuity in a world that is constantly changing.
11) They’re not into small talk
“Terrible weather we’re having, they say it’s going to rain all week.”
Yikes! Old souls absolutely dread small talk. You certainly won’t get them initiating conversations about the weather.
They prefer meaningful conversations.
They wanna talk about the stuff that really matters – the struggles someone is going through, the various experiences they’ve accumulated, you know, real sh**.
12) They’re totally zen
One of my favorite things about old soul personalities is the fact that they’re so at peace with everything – they’re super chill and just radiate this positive and calming energy.
That’s why it feels good to be in their presence, they have a way of making you feel like everything is going to be ok.
In fact, they’re usually the ones people turn to for advice and when they need a shoulder to cry on because they’re a source of tranquillity.
13) They’re not at all materialistic
The way old souls see it, things are just that – things.
They’re not all that into material possessions, they prioritize experiences and relationships over stuff.
That’s not to say that they don’t enjoy collecting old trinkets, but if it came down to it, they have no trouble parting with them.
14) They have a strong connection to nature
Nature is older than man.
Gaya, the earth, mother nature, whatever you want to call it, has a kind of permanence that old souls are drawn to.
They have a strong connection to nature and find inspiration in its beautiful complexity. That’s why they make sure to spend a lot of time outdoors to recharge and connect with mother nature.
15) They‘re never in short supply of empathy and compassion
You’ll find that from a very young age, old souls possess a deep understanding of others. I guess that’s why they seem to be wise beyond their years.
They’re empathetic and compassionate and a source of great comfort and support for the people in their lives.
And who knows?
Maybe their empathy and compassion are the result of the experiences accumulated in previous lives.
16) They’re pretty intuitive
I don’t know if they have a sixth sense or what, but old souls definitely have a heightened sense of intuition.
They’re extremely gifted at reading other people. In fact, when it comes to figuring out someone’s true intentions, they’re almost never wrong.
When they sense that someone is up to no good, they’ll warn others about it. And if they don’t listen, they usually regret it and end up saying, “But how did you know?”
Does any of this sound familiar?
Are you an old soul?
