Marriage is a major life milestone.
So it’s only natural that you’d be curious what it means when you dream about it.
Does it perhaps mean that you’re about to get married soon? Or is it a sign of something else totally unrelated?
In this article, I will give you 10 life and spiritual meanings of getting married in a dream.
1) You’re going through changes
I remember a certain time in my life when I dreamed about getting married. It felt very real and it happened a lot in such a short period of time—five times in just two months!
As someone who believes in the power of dreams, I started to panic and wonder what it all could mean, especially since those dreams all featured one person in particular.
I thought it was a message from the Universe that the person I’m getting married to in my dream is the one meant for me. I searched for them and they didn’t even reply to my message. So much for finding “the one”!
But in retrospect, I actually misunderstood what it was all about. It didn’t mean I was going to marry that person at all. But I dreamed about marrying them for another reason.
Those dreams came to me at a time when I was going through a lot of internal changes like questioning my own identity and my beliefs, as well as simply growing up in general into a newer, better person.
It was at that time that I figured out what I wanted to do with my life! And the person I was marrying in my dream pretty much symbolized who I wanted to be—carefree, fun, artistic.
And it might be what’s happening to you right now.
Everything in your life may seem quite calm or routine on the surface—like there’s nothing much going on—but you could be going through huge mental, emotional, and spiritual transformations deep down inside.
If you feel like you’re going through changes, don’t be scared.
Instead, be excited about what’s to come because dreaming about getting married means you’re about to commit to a much better version of yourself.
What to do:
If you’re feeling a little lost in life, then be comforted by your dreams about marriage. It could mean that you’re about to figure out your path.
Look for clues on your groom or bride. What kind of person are they? Maybe it’s actually the kind of person you want to become.
2) You’re being pressured to make a big decision
Dreams are rarely literal. Just because you’re dreaming of marriage doesn’t mean you’re going to get married in a week.
What’s more likely is that your dreams served as a mirror of your life. You see, it’s a well-known fact that the things we go through in our day-to-day lives have an effect on our dreams.
If you feel pressured in real life, it might be the reason you’re getting married in your dreams—especially if you’re the type who finds it hard to commit.
How did you feel while you’re in your dream? Were you nervous as you marched down the aisle? Did you worry about what others think about your dress?
Maybe you’re facing a very big decision in your life and you’re not quite sure what to make of it.
What to do:
Manage how you feel towards your life decision.
If you’re concerned about whether you made the right choice or are unsure what you should do, you’ll find yourself exploring your anxiety in this context.
Once you’ve made the decision and have accepted everything that comes along with it, or once you’ve removed your anxiety over your decisions, your dreams about getting married will eventually stop.
3) True love is coming your way
I know I said that dreams are rarely literal, but that doesn’t mean that your dreams are going to be unrelated to love either.
That is to say, it’s quite possible that your dreams are hinting at something happening to your love life (or lack thereof).
This is exactly what had happened to a close friend of mine. She never had a boyfriend her entire life, until one day she suddenly started dreaming about getting married. She felt extremely happy in her dreams, but couldn’t exactly say what the guy looked like.
And you know what happened? She met the love of her life just a few weeks later, and now they’re happily married!
But her case is a special one. You might have to wait a little longer and do something before you’ll actually meet your special person.
What to do:
Think about your personal relationships in real life.
Is there someone you unconsciously have feelings for? Or do you simply have this gut feeling that you’re about to meet the one?
In any case, the best thing to do is wait, and maybe look out for the signs you might be missing—those that are staring you in the face without you noticing.
4) You’re unhappy in your current relationship
Are you in a relationship and you dreamt about getting married to someone else who’s NOT your partner? Or did you get married to your partner in your dream but you didn’t feel happy?
Maybe it’s because you’ve been having doubts with your current SO.
Do you see them as the one for you or you’re starting to think there’s someone else who’s more fitting to be with you? Do you want to actually get married already?
Our repressed feelings and wishes always make themselves known in our dreams, and it’s quite possible that the reason why you’re dreaming about getting married is because you’re having doubts about your relationship.
What to do:
Dreaming about marriage doesn’t necessarily mean you want to get married. If anything, it might force you to face your problems with your partner as well as your fears and uncertainties with marriage.
How does the dream feel when you wake up? How does it make you feel about your relationship? If your feelings are negative or ambiguous at best, it’s time to investigate your feelings and discuss it with your partner.
5) You’re about to commit to something…and you’re unsure
If you think about it, what is a marriage if not the ultimate act of commitment?
One very likely reason why you’re dreaming about marriage is because you’re about to make a big commitment and your subconscious is trying to process it all.
Perhaps you’re thinking about moving, adopting a child, or even deciding what career path you’d like to take.
It can be something that you’re happy to do, it can be something that you need to do out of obligation. No matter which, it’s only natural for you to feel a little uneasy or even doubt yourself.
What to do:
Re-assess yourself and the decisions you’re about to make. Perhaps dreaming about marrying someone can be a sign that you need to be careful and thoughtful with your decisions.
But if you’re sure that it’s still something you really want to commit to, then try to relax a little. Everything will be alright.
6) It’s a “go” signal from the universe
Just as dreaming about marriage can be your mind going “think twice about this relationship or decision please,” it can also be a sign from the universe telling you it’s okay and you should go ahead.
The devil is in the details, as they say.
Your dreams are more likely than not to be affirmative if your dreams about marriage have been full of positive feelings like hope and happiness.
It’s a nod from the universe that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be, with who you’re supposed to be with, and doing exactly what you should be doing… or, at the very least, heading in the right direction.
What to do:
Trust yourself and the universe more. It’s already giving you a thumbs up by making you dream about getting married.
7) Someone in your life is in a serious relationship
It’s also quite likely that someone in your life—maybe even someone you have a big crush on—is in a serious relationship.
And, well, you can’t just talk to them about how much you wish you had your own partner or that they were dating you instead. That would just be rude, and might even damage your relationship!
So you instead confront these feelings in your dreams. You try to face your envy and jealousy where you can harm no one but yourself so that you can come to terms with them.
What to do:
Deal with jealousy the healthy way.
The moment you fully accept your feelings, those dreams should slowly die down until you know peace once more.
8) You’re been hungry for attention
So there’s another aspect to weddings that we haven’t quite discussed yet—the feeling of actually being the center of attention.
And it’s quite possible that you’re simply dreaming about getting married because you’re yearning for your time in the sun.
While not the most exciting reason for dreaming about marriage, it’s still important nonetheless especially if you want to get to know yourself better and improve your life.
What to do:
Do you feel you’re constantly being ignored at home or at work? Or are you not being given enough attention by your significant other?
It’s time to deal with these issues before they affect you even more.
9) You’re finally starting to realize your worth
Many of us fantasize of marriage as a time in our life when we have found someone who loves us unconditionally, flaws and all.
And perhaps the reason why you’re dreaming is because you’ve finally found someone who loves you for who you are—yourself.
Yes, I know, the idea of you marrying yourself is quite weird. But hey, brains are weird and they show their weirdness in dreams.
What to do:
If you haven’t already realized your worth, you’re about to. So allow yourself to love yourself fully.
You’re slowly seeing your worth and that even with all your flaws and imperfections there’s no-one else you’d rather be.
10) You’re about to start a new chapter in your life
We’ve established that dreams about marriage aren’t going to be necessarily about you actually marrying someone, and can instead be about concepts tangentially related to it.
And one of those concepts is change.
You might be dreaming about marriage because you’re about to enter a new chapter in your life—a chapter that’s very, very different from the one that came before.
And whatever feelings you may have in your dreams— be they excitement, apprehension, or confusion— are exactly how you feel about this coming change in your life.
It’s possible that you don’t even know what it is yet or that it will happen, and it is the universe’s way or preparing you for big life changes.
What to do:
Prepare yourself for big changes to come, but don’t worry too much. You have to learn to trust yourself that you’ll be able to handle anything life throws your way—bad or good. I’m excited for you.
Last words
Dreams can be quite tricky to try to understand.
There are times when they might not mean much, and then there are times when they mean an awful lot.
Sometimes they can be quite abstract, and sometimes they can be quite literal.
But just because dreams are chaotic doesn’t mean they’re impossible to understand. Far from it—once you know what you’re looking at, you can easily use them as a way to understand your innermost struggles and desires.
