Humans are sensitive creatures. We crave acceptance, affection and most of all, love. We all thrive on these things and seek comfort in them.
But when our world is clouded by stress, negativity, and pain it’s hard to see the good in the world and in those people around us. We may find it difficult to not only find the love and affection we crave, but to accept it as well. Eventually all that stress can build up and not only cause us mental anguish, but physical harm as well.
Here are 4 mindful ways to get rid of the stress in your life and be happy:
1) Don’t Take Rude Comments to Heart.
Sometimes the people in our lives can say things that cut us to our very core. During these times it’s important to remember that these comments aren’t examples of your self worth and shouldn’t have a direct impact on your self-esteem. Instead of reacting defensively, try to see the situation from the other person’s point of view. Is something wrong that they are avoiding?
Sometimes when people internalize their own negativity and frustration, it can take bubble over the top and manifest as anger towards those around them. It’s important to be compassionate during these times and realize they aren’t directly targeting you. They are silently asking for your help.
2) Fill Your Life With Positivity.
Negativity is exhausting. It can suck all the joy and happiness from your heart and from your life if you let it. Hanging on to negative thoughts makes it almost impossible to look ahead. How can you improve and grow if you’re not able to look ahead?
Taking action and actively looking for the things that reignite the excitement and fire in your heart are the answer. By putting yourself out there and finding the things that truly make you happy and fulfilled, you’ll soon realize that there’s little room left for negativity.
3) Learn to Love Yourself.
Life is way too short to not love who you are as a person. You know yourself better than anyone, so what isn’t there to love? Loving yourself is an important step in ridding the negativity from your mind.
All of us are so beautifully different and that uniqueness in every one of us should be appreciated. Why waste any time feeling less than great about yourself?
4) Let Go of the Past.
At some point in time, we’ve all been lied to, deceived, or hurt. It’s an unfortunate, but necessary part of life. But just because you’ve been hurt in the past, that doesn’t mean you should let it poison your chances of being happy now.
Sitting alone at home and stewing over all the wrong that’s been done to you is a surefire way to stress you out. The past is exactly that – the past. It’s behind you and that’s where it should stay. So don’t let the dark clouds from the past float into the bright and clear skies of the present.
