About Jeanette Brown
I am a qualified and experienced coach who is passionate about individuals reaching their potential, whether in their personal lives or their work.
I have been in the Education sector for many years, starting off my career as a language and mathematics teacher and then moving into senior and executive leadership roles of large teaching departments in educational institutes.
Throughout my career I have had a passion for helping people—in the workplace and among students of all ages and backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers from different parts of the world. Many have overcome horrific circumstances to get a better life for themselves and their families and have moved forward in their lives with dignity and grace.
For many years, I have observed the resilience and tenacity of people who have overcome obstacles and barriers to develop their potential. On the other hand, I have seen people falter at the smallest challenge and not be able to move beyond it. I have always been curious why some people can make positive, deep-lasting changes that transform their lives and yet others can’t seem to get beyond the first hurdle.
Over 20 years ago, I became interested in the self-development field and then consciously began my own journey of self-development and growth, re-engineering the way I live my life. I have done lots of research and study as well as reflection on the human experience and untapped potential that we all have. Throughout this time, I have coached many different people, both in the workplace and privately.
For me, this has been a journey of extending myself, getting out of my comfort zone and stretching myself both in my personal and professional life, gaining deeper self-awareness and self-knowledge along the way. It has helped enormously in my life.
A number of years ago I articulated my own personal vision of how I wanted to live my life. It encompasses what I have mentioned already—the 5Ps of living a soul-centred life: Purpose, Passion, Presence, Persistence, Possibility.
My vision statement is simple and I am happy to share it:
I have compassion and respect for myself, all others and the planet. I am joyful, grateful and vibrant. I trust in myself and I place full trust in the universe. I am exactly where I am meant to be on my life journey.
It is a long, slow roller-coaster ride of a journey that is raising my levels of consciousness and energetic vibrations. I know I am on the right path for me and I am getting there!
Given that you are about to undertake a journey with me, I would like to share my personal story.
Growing up as one of the youngest in a large family brought much joy. I continue to espouse the values that I was brought up with: family comes first and love your family unconditionally. My parents went through financial hardship and difficult times and yet I was brought up in a world of so much love that I believed I was wealthy even though we were actually very poor materially. I am proud that my own immediate family, a husband and three sons, have the same unconditional love towards each other.
When I was 16, my older sister died in a car accident and this tragedy profoundly affected my family and me. I believe going through something horrible like this does give you a different perspective on life. Without doubt, it helps you have a deeper appreciation of the wonder and awe of life itself and how fleeting it is.
I am the first person in my family to gain a university degree and I have enjoyed a deeply satisfying and stimulating career, firstly as a teacher of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and then leading and managing large teaching departments, including running a division with 350 staff and 8000 students.
Being in the refugee and migrant field has given me wonderful opportunities to mix with such a range of people in all walks of life and across all corners of the globe. I have learnt so much and I am forever grateful for the path that led me to this profession.
Life brings many challenges and reversals and I am proud that I have been able to not only step up to the personal challenges in my life with resilience and strength, but also to draw something good from them. For example, when some members of my family suffered serious ill health (they’re fine now, I’m happy to say), their courage in dealing with their trials was inspirational.
What I have learnt through my own journey of personal growth and research is that underneath all our external circumstances, it is really how we are inside that counts.
I have shared some of my story with you because I want you to see that anyone who dares to provide guidance in the self-development of an individual is also on a personal journey.
Two years ago, I joined Ideapod, a social media platform that gives people the opportunity to connect in a more meaningful way through the sharing of ideas. I started to share some of the self-development and coaching techniques and tools that I have successfully used for years on others as well as on myself.
I have gained a loyal following on Ideapod and have now decided to incorporate my learning and techniques into this step-by-step guide. My ways have worked very well for me and for the people I have coached. I am passionate about sharing them with you.
All the best for your journey—I know you can do it because you are curious and open to your personal growth. This guide is for you!
With gratitude and thanks,
