Many of us hit the snooze button on a Monday morning in hopes of getting just five more minutes of shut eye. It may seem like a harmless habit, but this small act sets the tone for your week. Think about it: before you have even started your day, you’re already running behind.
Monday morning routines set the mood for the rest of the day and the rest of the week.
So below, we’ve collated 10 morning habits that will get you ready to tackle the day and week ahead.
1) They meditate
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the benefits of meditation. From reducing stress to anxiety to enhancing memory and concentration, there isn’t much that go wrong by giving it a try.
Meditation allows you to get the mind clear and focused on achieving your goals for the day and week ahead. Every week is a chance to get close to achieving your big goals.
2) They assess their emotions
Monday can be a huge downer after refreshing weekend. However, you don’t need to ignore your negative feelings. It can be more fruitful to acknowledge your emotions and ask yourself why you’re feeling this way.
Then you’ll be in a better position to reframe your perspective of why Monday’s suck to something more optimistic.
3) They practice positive self-talk
Negative self-talk serves no purpose. It’s far better to back yourself and be optimistic.
After all, you only get life once, so why not make the most of it, even if it’s Monday?
4) They let their loved ones know they’re loved
They realize that love is the most powerful force in the universe, and therefore keep their loved ones close by their side to get through Mondays and the week ahead.
Whether it’s through listening intently, or saying the three words, “I love you”, when they get a chance, they’ll show how much they love their closed ones.
5) They look after themselves
While they realize how important it is to have loved ones around, they also take responsibility for themselves. They accept that it’s Monday and get in the mindset of achieving their goals. They realize that they have to be responsible for how they think, feel and act.
6) They set goals
This is a crucial habit of a successful and happy person on Monday. Setting goals allows their mind to get focused and clear on what needs to be done throughout the day and week. At no point in the day will they wonder, “What will I do next?”
7) They exercise
Exercising is not only great for the body, it’s wonderful for the mind, too. Why? Because it gives you a sense of achievement which releases the feel good chemicals, dopamine. It also gets the blood flowing and makes you feel alive.
8) They strive to be better
If you’re not growing, then you’re not really living. They realize that life is constant growth and they only thing that needs to be feared is plateaus. Monday is a fresh start to a week of improvement.
9) They embrace joyful moments
Yes, even on Mondays you can experience joy. Joy has no boundaries. Moments don’t last forever so you have to embrace them while you can. They bask in the present moment and wish everyone they encounter the best for the upcoming week.
10) They hope for the best
Being pessimistic and negative doesn’t serve much of a purpose. Happy people stay away from energy stealers and remain optimistic about the day and week ahead. They see opportunities that not many other people do.
As the Dalai Lama said, “Be optimistic, it feels better.”
