But, like everything else, there’s a balance to be struck. Holding someone’s gaze for too long can come off as aggressive or creepy. The key is to maintain natural eye contact – break away now and then, but always return your focus to the person you’re speaking with.

If you find yourself speaking too fast or in a higher pitch when you’re nervous, try slowing down and lowering your pitch. You might find that it makes a significant difference in how others perceive you.
